Bugger bugger bugger :upset: - bought my Ebara on eBay a while ago - well if it dies and it involves more than replacing a capacitor, I'll be coming to see you for a Grundfos EB.

I know Rupe started mentioning it a couple of months back, but I already had it then too !

Thanks EB, the one I picked up the other day works a treat :headbang: :notworthy:
and consumes less than 1/2 the power of those  other ones    :flower:

Bought Sep 2008, Run capacitor fail November 2009.
FYI:-
Buy an 8uF 400V capacitor (or two!) TODAY for spares.

P.S. It was a Public Holiday in ACT yesterday, so I had to get a spare pronto - no 8uF available, the pump is running OK on a 10uF unit.

Can anyone provide a little more detail on this. Basically, what sort of capacitor (electrolytic, bipolar, tantalum, .......)
Have been looking through the Dick Smith and Jaycar sites and nearly going mad trying to find it. A piccy would be great

Yes, but please ve aware that you're playing with both electricity AND water at the same time.

I'd prefer dead fish to a dead forum member.

They are a motor Run capacitor. un polarised electrolytic with a higher power rating than any of the electronics ones i was used to before being introduced to them.

expect to be ripped off by trade suppliers if you walk in off the street. even tradies get ripped off! lol.

Honestly unless you are a die hard DIY'er (dumb question, arent we all here?) AND have a reasonable mechanical and electrical knowledge please just buy a new one.

PM me if you need them. (the caps)

Thinking about 1 each of these http://www.rockaroundtheblock.com.au/pr ... D=20&cID=5 for my IBC systems.

Love the low voltage, particularly if I run with my solar idea.

Anyone have any experience with them?

VB and I bought one each ages ago on the net.... think it was the 12000L model...

Hadn't seen them before, but they were supposedly the bee's knees.... mine burnt out in about a month...

Don't know about VB's... and they appear to have upped the warranty from 1 to 3 years... so... :dontknow:

Might have just been a lemon...

cheers. Another contender might be the barracude 4000 http://www.creativepumps.com.au/zpumps/ ... -pumps.htm.

A bit more wattage though.

I have the hozelock 12,000 and its ok. Bit power hungry though.

The barracuda looks like a good pump.

Anyone use a condensate pump?

My husband was thinking it would be good in the ST on a float switch, drawing less power than a regular sump pump. I don't think it will turn over the water fast enough - the smallest one was 85 GPH (we're using a 55 g barrel as a FT). I don't think we need a float switch if it's running off a timer.

or comparable.

Just starting to look for US suppliers, not big, 300-700 gph.

Have a copy of a German brand 2000L/H
pond/sump pump - $35 couple of mths ago
As it's lifting 1.7m to a trickle tower
I guess it's only turning over 400L/H - 20%?
(2.5m max head) about once/HR total turnover
Thing is, buying a second one, is it still cheaper
than the branded one & more peace of mind &
backup than a 3YR warranty :?

Really cheap pumps are ok for non-essential roles, ie trickle towers, but there is no way I would use cheapy pumps now for heavy duty work, they just fail too regularly. My more expenisve pumps have been going strong for over 2.5 years now continuously, without a single pump caused failure! 6 Cheap pumps failed within 4 months (running continuously).
