Hi All,
I am located in the state of Pennsylvania, USA, about 45 minutes southwest of Philadelphia. I have an outdoor aquaponics pond, and a new aquaponics experiment started indoors.

Michigan, USA Greenhouse 700 sq ft, tank = two sections with total 3000 gallons. Startup scheduled for spring 2007. Building exterior finished. Cold weather is here and I am fitting out interior. Plumbing and DFT grow bed. Grow bed is only 90 sq ft. Too small for fish tank size. Going to add NFT channels over grow bed for more veggie area.

Hi Vmahajan, sounds like my proposed system is similar to yours.

Interested in how you incorporated the nft into the system.

Would you mind PMing me with a diagram and or pictures?

hi everyone, scotland here, starting to look seriously at the reserach and development potentail of apuaponics systems both as waste remediation from existing aquaculture sites and also at household level systems for use in a developing world context where water is often limited, polluted or possibly saline (in costal areas etc) staring to set up a system in our tropical aquarium, and looking at setting up a number of reserach projects in the near future (once funds secured)

hello from scotland

Hello RupertofOZ
I am starting the system in spring 2007. I am building it now. Lot of white paint went on interior today. First I am building a deep flow trough(DFT) bed 3' wide by 32' long. That is not enough to balance my 3000 gal tank, so NFT will augment. The NFT troughs are light weight and can be suspended above the grow bed below. They can drain to my existing sump. The NFT water will come from the top of my upflow filter (100 gal). A small pump will feed the NFT troughs (hopefully 3 troughs of 32').

Planned, but not built, so no photos yet.

Another system I saw in Canada interests me. It is a drip system with 6" PVC running the excess back to the sump. They were growing tomatoes in Hydrotron in cutoff milk jugs using the neck as a drain into the PVC. The tomatoes looked great.

Ah Doug B,

Sounds exactly like the concept I'm planning.

Although I intend to use flood and drain grow beds with nft tray(s) above.

Can see pics in "Member Systems" thread, RupertofOZ- Newbie system Part II.

Perhaps of interest could be the nft type of setup I plan to grow strawberries in pots with (works just as spectacularly with tomatos in pots or bags) drip feeds.

Have attached pic.... locally produced system that pots actually clip into nft holes.

Apparantly becoming a big seller in the US, indeed the inventor/seller is due to attend a big hydro conference over there in Feb 2007

PM me if you want more details

Hi, I am in Oklahoma, USA (south central part of US). My husband, son, and I are avidly researching aquaponics so that we can set up a system in our backyard. Our winters are cold, and we want to put it in a greenhouse enclosure. If anyone has any advice about greenhouses for this purpose, please write!

We are thinking of raising channel catfish, which are native to our area. I love to eat tiliapia but think our climate is too harsh for them. Maybe if we bury the fish tank?

Some people are speaking of "towers". All I have seen so far in my research is "flood and drain" tanks. Can someone give me a link where I can read more about the kinds of setups that exist? I'll do a search of the forums as well.

Thanks, I am glad I found you. :D

Donna

Donna, don't be so quick to dismiss Tilapia. With a properly built passive-solar greenhouse, you might just do it. You are warmer than most of Missouri, which is where S&S is:

Welcome!!!
