Home Stretch????? I still have 3 of the same to build, plus install another tank!!!

I think a good 6 months will be required to finish this system off. I have only built this part so quick to be able to stock Trout at easter.

You'll be looking forwad to Trout season too Faye :)

Oh yeah
Oh dear too much sun today I feel a rhyme coming on, sorry.

Trout are the best
Put them to the test
They don't care about their bait
and only 6 months to plate
We love them in the west

Thanks Ivan, funny thing is, all the maths points to around 1000 fish at 1/2kg each. Which does not really seem to be a lot.

I'll just see how the deep growbeds go, and ramp it up for next year.

When the tank and fingerling IBC's are full there is just under 15,000 litres of water circulating.

This will be filtered by around 20,000 litres of gravel (eventually). I was hoping for more filtration, but have not the room.

Hmmm... 500 kg of fish is quite a lot conservatively $8000 without value adding...
But double that for produce :headbang:
Specially where you are :D

Impressive... I think the Kalgoorie Tourist Board will need to list your place down as an attraction after you are setup...

Yeah, thats why I went for it C1, I reckon I can at least pay for the system, if not make some money. Fish grow fast, plants grow fast, it's a great climate. $10 per 500 gram+ trout. A single Trout season + Vegies (barring disasters) could easily net $10k. Makes the growth rates of Silvers tolerable.

Lol, whats the chances of two Ivans posting at the same time :D

Fair way in the future Ivansg, insurance etc. makes tours pretty expensive.

OBO, be sure to keep us up to date on the numbers!

I've always thought there was a place for gravel beds in a commercial scale system.

I'll be interested to see how these figures work for you OBO. I think they might be a little on the optimistic side for stocking and for sales.. That's going to be pretty heavily stocked with fish for the number of plants you will have.

I recon you'll be struggling to get the $$ you think you will. The latest fisheries report for WA aquaculture production shows that Trout and Barra average $10 per Kg for the grower, Silvers average $14 per kg. The aquaculture licence states that the fish must be sold in a whole unprocessed state so you cant value add unless you get a fish processors licence and then you'll also need a commercial kitchen which makes it too costly for a small scale operation. The other thing to remember is that the market usually prefers trout at the 330 - 400gms size range (less $$ per fish). Hopefully the Kalgoorlie factor will enable you to get more $$$ per fish than the average price.
