Some of you may be a little shocked by this.

After ten years of tinkering with DNA in a Rhode Island lab, a top fish boffin claims he has created a genetically enhanced mutant supertrout.

"Our findings are quite stunning," says Professor Terry Bradley, an expert on trout, salmon, flounder and tuna. "The results have significant implications."

Personally, I really don't want to be associated with this sort of thing. I prefer my trout nice and fresh, lightly grilled with a little garlic butter. Not this ugly monstrosity.

I dont see the benifit. many trout growers are already getting close to a 1 to 1 feed conversion ratio. Fairly ugly too. I have seen wild trout with similar humps. This is more common in lakes with high crustation levels from what I can tell.

yeah no thanks for me. Can't believe they are playing around like that! Would want them to get into the wild gene pool!!!!

I doubt that they would be much of an issue. They would require more food than average trout and would probably be slower from too much muscle. Have you seen the cows that they spoke of they are so muscle bound that they can hardly walk.

Ugly all right. I'm a bit wary of anything that have "growths" like that. I still feel myself for lumps even 35 years later! I say leave the fish alone.

Genetically modified foods are going to be the death of us all, whether meat or fruits/veges.

Several important reasons... First, we have no long-term research on what the altered genetics will do to our bodies... Hormones in foods are enough to create problems.

Second, and of significantly greater importance right NOW, is that most genetic modifications are patented and traceable. Licensing fees and/or royalties have to be paid to the owning company (Monsanto as a major offender) and HUGE fines can be levied if you are found in illegal ownership of the modified stock... The problem is that with corn, for example, you can't control cross pollination from the genetically modified stock in your neighbor's field. The result is that your corn can be modified and then you owe royalties or fines. With this trout, for example, if one escapes to the wild and 'pollinates' a few other trout, the mutations are traceable and royalties could be owed for simply fishing and eating from wild streams...

Scary indeed.
