Welcome! I can empathize with you. My buddy from college once gave me the weirdest look when I told him I could grow plants in his dorm closet without sunlight or soil... Boy did I prove him wrong! Ahh I could only imagine the reaction if I knew back then what I know now and added a fish tank to the setup!

Yeah, I also am from the UK. Currently living in London. Trying to buy a small holding in the Somerset/Dorset/Wiltshire area to setup an Aquaponics based business.

So you're not alone.

Hi again everyone!! I have been lurking and not posting! bad bad very bad! i know but dont feel like i know enough yet to post.
Anyhow, things here are ok........ I have now got my wormery up and running.
I am trying to sort out starting a small backyard aquaponics system up but (and i knew you were waiting for the but!) funds are low! very low as in not even there kinda low!!!!
Ok so in a perfected world I would have £200,000 to play with and get a large system up and running and paying for its self by xmas! oh and i would be able to pay someone else to do all the hard work!!! oh how i wish!! :laughing3: in the mean time until I win the lotto I am just gonna go play with my worms some more.
hope you r all ok byeeeeee Alex

Welcome Alex... no need to feel bad about lack of funding mate... most of us are in the same boat...

But the beauty of aquaponics is that you can start small... and grow....

Have a look around for something like the 1000L IBC containers for a fish tank... and bins/drums for growbeds... and contact some of the other UK members...

You might be surprised just what sort of results you can get from a small systems... and it's a great way to start and learn...

Jump in and get your feet wet mate....

Hey alex...you could likely get a system up and going for next to nothing...look in the skips around town, someone somewhere is tossing out some containers. Even an old drawer from a chest could be lined and used as a growbed. Craigslist (over here at least) is a good place to score cheap stuff...sometimes even free. http://london.craigslist.co.uk/ Friends and family will often offer to give you things you need also. Just ask mum if she has some old plastic containers she whould not mind parting with. I have a borrowed pond pump on mine and the timer my neighbor gave to me for free. Still trying to figure it out though.

Good luck and don't be dishearted that the funds are not there....just get creative with what you have available.

Mark
