I'd be interested in something in the SE, schedule dependent...

I volunteer JT to host... LOL!

(Actually, GA or AL would be pretty central for the TX/FL/NC crowd....)

Hey guys, I am in Southern Middle Tennessee just 30 miles north of Huntsville, Alabama. I think I am pretty centrally located and the fall around here is absolutely terrific. Maybe we could work out something.

Okay, so I posted kinda quick before. I think the idea of a get together is a terrific idea. I am such a newbie at AP that I could really use the interaction. We have an RV so we can probably make a get together almost anywhere in the Southeast.

But north Alabama is a central location. There are no less than 6 state parks within a 50 mile radius of Huntsville, Alabama including one that is within the city limits that could be used for this gathering. And the Huntsville Botanical gardens has an AP. And plenty of other attractions including the Space and Rocket Center.

Just a thought.

Well, I am not sure of the current state but it is referenced in this link .... http://www.hsvbg.org/gardentour.htm

And here is the link to Monte Sano state park located in Huntsville and it has a reference to the AP setup.

http://www.alapark.com/MonteSano/NearbyAttractions/

It would be a terrific place to gather since it is about 1500 feet higher in altitude than the surrounding area and is cooler.

I guess I will have to check it out next week to see what is going on with their setup. Since Huntsville is overly interested in long term space flight I expect their AP is setup for research in possible spacecraft vegetable gardens.

The first thing to do would be to decide on an area to have the meet, that would be closest to as many members who want to go as possible. Then you could find a place there. I dont know if there are enough of us to make much of a meet at this point.

If traveling, it would have to be incorperated into the family vacation. That is why orlando would be good - easy buy off with wife and kids. Not to sure they would be as exceited to drive an entire day to go see fish in Tenn - perhaps Graceland might pull them in, dunno. Lot of popular area attraction would be nessesary for us to be in - or a short drive.

Hey, I am happy to go anywhere in the southeast for a get together. Well, except for Texas since I lived in Clear Lake City for a while .... ;-)

There is also a terrific area around Gulf Shores Alabama that would make a good meeting place. Lots of shore and fish along with good accomodations.

Just an idea. :bigsmurf:

Hello everyone This is a good Idea I own a 10 acre site in N Florida at the corner of I 75 and I 10 25 miles south of the Ga State line.I am building "The Nature's Way' Institute who's purpose is "to treat the Earth gently" by creating awareness, sharing information, trainings, and providing resources to people who want to live and eat in a sustainable manner. We are building a commercial Aquaponic growing system in one of the 15 greenhouses on the property we have developed the teaching materials necessary to train people in all aspects of Aquaponics. Our plans are to have a learning and teaching Institute where we can teach people the practices of Sustainable Agriculture and Permaculture. There is plenty of room for camping, there are bathrooms and showers I would be willing to Host the event at my Farm I can be reached at rpoletz@gmail.com blessings Randy Poletz

Hello Randy, Welcome to the BYAP forum
I see it's your first post and your offering to host.
It's a very generous offer, but while I can't speak for others there is a little more trust earned by introducing yourself in the Introduction section..even if you are just planning a system.
And if you have a system start a members system thread, If it's a commercial operation post a thread there so we get to know you. And since we don't really know you, we can't really know how genuine the offer is as opposed to a personel business's spam.
I hope I don't come across harsh, because I don't know you I don't want to discourage a member from doing something really nice.
Printed text always seems blunt, sorry.
Florida seems to have a lot of active members, it would be a logical place to host and has potential for families to take advantage of vacationing along the coast.

Hello I totally understand and I will get to know you all over the coming weeks. My name is Randy Poletz I have built a backyard patio system and have grown successfully fish and veggies.I am in the design stage of the first large scale system at the farm it will be a 4,000 gal tank with 2 8 x 60 raft tanks.I would also like to incorporate a NFT system that is set up in an adjoining green house. I have most of the equipment to build these systems presentaly at the farm. The farm was a hydroponic tomato/lettuce farm I bought it 5 years ago as an investor with my partner to grow wheat grass for her company. We grew tomatoes for one season and learned much from that experience. My partner changed her plans and found a better way to grow her products in organic fields, so we were stuck with the farm.We tried unsuccessfully to sell it for 3 years.I believe that God had another plan for it and me. I was looking for my next venture and realized that I had a calling to help people with the farm I didn't know what the plan was but had faith that God would guide me through it. I came across another Aquaponic training facility and took their week long course. After going through this trainning I realized that this type of farming could change the world. So I have been looking at many scenarios for the farm. I looked at pure aquaculture as a business of raising fish,I looked at Hydroponics and vegetable production as a business, but the one thing that kept creeping back into my consciousness was this Idea of helping to transform the farming world with Aquaponics by raising awareness, training and being a resource to people, farmers and communities for growing food with aquaponics. I decided to establish a not for profit Institute that will raise awareness, teach and train, and be a resource for Aquaponic farming and Sustainable living. It feels right and Is in alignment with my purpose. As far as me Im 54 years old I am a father of 3 with one of my children being brain injured from a birth accident, I have been an entrepreneur all my life and never got satisfaction from just making money. I am going to spend the rest of my life doing work with a higher purpose. I love water activities and have been an avid boater all my life.I have lived in florida all my life. I am a visionary and a leader I believe in impowerin people to follow their calling and to live with Passion. I will be putting up pictures of the farm as soon as I figure it out.I want to contribute to this forum and appreciate your candor.I welcome any communication and would love to discuss any concept topic that would help any of us fulfill our goals. Warm Regards Randy Poletz
