Dang, that looks really nice.

I bet you might be able to keep trout...some folks have managed to keep them going through the summer.

A fairly safe stocking level is about 1% (1kg/100liters), so 60 or so fish should be fine.

That is one hell of a tank you have built there Steve, it will look awesome once it is finished.

Given me some ideas for the future and I don't even have my first set up built yet! my wife will be pleased :D

***update****

OK... so the glass didn't turn up when i expected it so it's not in yet...

...HOWEVER...

tomorrow the glass is being picked up and i WILL be installing it tomorrow night with the help of a friend. pictures will be taken (if all goes well) and you can expect to see them very soon. Saturday is the day that water will be introduced to the level i deem appropriate... about 100mm from the top (netting will be used to hold fish in)

ok, so with the help of two great mates, a very understanding and patient girlfriend and a brown hound, we managed to get the glass in, set and secured in about half an hour. The glass is damned heavy for its size... and the water depth was just at that height where i started to wish that maybe i was an inch taller in the legs... the water was remarkably "fresh" to say the least. anyway here are a few pics... when all is good and done i will post something new with a full time line of how this all went.

SS,

. . . and a brown hound,

Haven't seen a chocolate Dobbie for a long time. Good to see another long tail!

This is my site dog, supervises when lazy, trying to get her nose into everything else when she wants to "help"!
She's a Black and Tan, Missy Jade Flower.

I will be getting a similar sized piece of glass for the end of the swimming pool. $2000 engineered for purpose!!
Will be looking for something a bit less expensive I can assure you.
Good luck with the system.
Cheers IanK

Man that is going to look excellent. Was it $2000? I couldn't find where you'd said that.

Gemmell,
Steve's piece of Glass cost him about $500 (Toughened, 15mm single layer) for his fish tank, which will look excellent!
But his glass is supported on all 4 edges.

I was quoted $2000 for a piece about the same size (600 high x 1200 wide clear opening), but engineered for safety considerations in a swimming pool as a wet edge wier; i.e. was unsupported at the top edge! But I will be looking for a less expensive solution. The engineered solution offered included a 90x90x3.0 Square Hollow section at each side of the opening; built into the Block Work wall of the pool and then concrete filled to the Block cores. A stainless steel angle then framed the reccessed "socket" for the glass to sit against, with sealant and clip fixings. (No penetrations).

I didn't mean to confuse. my bad!

Cheers IanK :?

IAN, she is a cutie mate. I had to fight like buggery with the missus to get a dobe but now, 4 years on, she wouldn't have anything else. I think "Chaos" has the same lazy=supervisor attitude... although one night he was "helping me" lower my ute and got his head in the way of a mallet blow... but a few heavy blinks and a look of "jeez what was that for" saw him ok. pats all round, happy hound. We are looking to add another dobe to the family later this year. hopefully with tail.

anyway pond stuff...

window still in place, i do have some touching up to do but that will wait for another day. I am about to buy a bio filter to add on to this pond sop i can stock it with a few feeder goldies before the trout turn up... calling troutman for them...

on a bad note, one of my big barra died for some reason over night..... water tests all good, ph at 6.8, amm .25 rates around 15... nothing has changed in the last 4 weeks! anyway.... you win some you lose some i guess.

flat out looking forward to filling the pond right up.......

Looking good SS,

Was in B store today (Maroochydore) and seen sheet of pool fencing about same size (1200x900x15) for ~$69. This would have to be safety glass, one would assume. Would something like this be suitable? Too late for you Steve.

i looked at that option but here they are toughenened... once hardened, cant be cut.. so you have to make your size appropriate to the glass. this was not an option for me. If its laminated, the strength is only that of half thickness (2 piece) ... either way you will have to spend the coin if you want something specific.

... maybe i will bear this in mind for my next construction.. (just kidding hunny  )
