Couldn'T find a venting corner so here goes
Last night a nice young girl rang the bell and said have you heard of the government insulation rebate
Do you have insulation and how old [15 years ] if its compacted you qualify
Looks yep its compacted measures the house 144 sq meters yep we can do that tomorrow
so got the calculater out a pack does 9 sq meters so 16 packs
the installers arrived today and unloaded 4 packs [36 sq meters]
Got in the roof for 1/2 hr got down and stood there i said what about the other packs
We are finished look so had a look they split the bats in three
No way mate so there was a stand off
picked up the phone and said who do you want me to ring a current affair the local building inspector consumer affairs your boss who he nominated the boss so i spoke to him and he tried to fob me off and when i explained i hepled run a hardwere store and knew all about insulation he spoke to the blokes and told them to put in the right amount in the end i got 108 sq meters and the ripped of the government of the other 40
i am posting this on every forum and send it on to all your email buddies
PS i have spoken to the government department and consumer affairs

Glad you took note F and F. Imagaine all the others who just don't follow through and check up on the work that has been done.
Reminds me to get up and check in my roof, we had insulation installed a few weeks ago.

You're joking......... I hope they shut the bastards down and fine them an enormous amount as well. That sort of person really needs to be shut down asap... Good work Milne, I really hope it doesn't just get buried in the government department.

Well there has been a number of issues with the insulation rebate scheme... In fact, some have died over it...

Worst part is you have to have someone install it. I'd like to put it in myself but I don't think its allowed.

Our current place has wool insulation (was here when we bought), but we got the paper crap put into our last place. Putting aside the fact that I wouldn't use that form of insualtion again, I had all sorts of trouble with the instal (and this was years ago, nothing to do with the current scheme and by a suposedly reputable mob). The night after the instal I'm lying in bed. In some parts of our house we had those bits where the internal roof is lower near the wall because of the eaves being inside the house instead of having an overhang outside the house (if you know what I mean). One such lower bit was above our bed at the end which our heads were. I noticed heat radiating from this area of the rood while lying in bed, so the next day got up in the roof to see what was going on. Bastards had not put any insulation into the eves, meaning that all the heat built up in the roof was coming into the house in those areas, to the extent I could feel it when lying in bed.

Bloody pricks - got them back of course, but many just would not have known or checked. Probably was a commonly used shortcut.

Had the same sort of crap happen a few years back when they put the sewerage through town...

Every shonky lawn-mowerman, tiler, brickie, busted chippie and general low-lifes....

Suddenly became "plumbing" contractors and experts...

You can do it yourself, you just don't get the rebate unless you get some shonky guy in to install it.
I'd rather buy the batts off him, install them, then call him back to bill the govt for my work!
But that wont happen unless I know a guy, which I don't.

Sorry about reigniting an old thread
Got a letter addressed to our place but with a totally different name
Saying the contractor that put the insulation in has been payed if you have concerns ring this no
So here goes rang with a concern well 4 or5
had to get up in the roof to fix the ducted heating pipes the joins were kicked apart
Insulation was installed on top of the board walkway around the heater unit
insulation wasn't installed right to the edges of the rooms
One room with a low roof no insulation at all they charged the government for 144 sq metres and installed 100 sq metres ect ect it went on
Departments response was
If you are not happy with the installation contact the installer and if you cant resolve it take it to v cap
or the ombudsman
Seems like julia is wipeing her hands of it to

Some young dude came to our door months ago and said we are here to put in ceiling insulation.
I said 'what are you talking about"
He said "its free"
He looked shonky to say the least so I told him to go and we didnt want it , free or not
If you could see all the ducting in our ceiling for heating and cooling you sure wouldnt want anyone up there, unless you know them.
May well have dodged a bullet by the sounds of all the ceiling fires etc
