Since taking out the trout the obvious thing is happening, plants are starting to suffer a bit, yabbies and the few small redfin don't seem to do much, as most are aware I am stuck between fish until trout season, what will help things along a bit, will a daily dose of humonia of about 6 pack quantities help?

I chucked in a few Koi to keep the plans going. The idea was to grow them out a bit and sell them when trout season came back round.

Unfortunately due to a system redesign at the time most got sucked in to the pump. Since then I have put some netting in to stop the fish getting in to the sump. Also today I dropped 100 Silver perch fingerlings in to grow out a bit then add to the pool later. Hope they go ok with the 5 Koi that are left.

JP I am a well documented non fan of Silvers but the way things are going I may have to give in but not until I have tried everything else

I started my system with silvers about 6inches long nearly 18 months ago now... when trout became available, i re-homed some silvers and put thr new trout in with about 5 remaining silvers... the trout came and went and were awesome... and now i have barra.. (wish i had trout) but still have the silvers in there too... i figure the silvers can stay as long as they like.. they are hardy, eat well most of the year and now are at a size where they would still keep the system going if i had a space of time between barra and trout again...

I suppose what I am hoping with the red fin steves, we should be able to toughen trout up a bit so they can last the summer

Goldies are good system keepers. If you can get the dam raised ones that are big. I've a few over 35cms.
