Measured my bore water temp into the tank and was 23.4deg, ambient was 36.3. My water temp in the ibcs has got up to 28deg (2 JPs said goodbye). Got the hose out and hosed down the bush house and covered area and amb temp dropped 10deg. Has got me thinking about using some micro irrigation fittings and letting it trickle down the shade cloth, with a timer fitted.

Your Jades shouldn't be keeling over at 28 Chainsaw... that's their favourite temp... have you got enough aeration going into the tank???

Remember, water at 28 degrees will only hold about 40% of oxygen that water at 20 will...

And the Jades will be metabolising and feeding at near max rates... thus consuming maximum amounts of oxygen...

Thats what I thought Rupe, is this enough? Pump is on 20/45 and when pump is on 150L/min air when power off switchs over to backup system and runs the smaller air pump (003 45w). No I think maybe still got some dying from stress as has a sore on side near the tail. no piccie buried it.

Have you salted at all... go to at least 1ppt... if you notice any others with sores... go to 3ppt...

Yep have salted 3ppt last week. Will just wait and see, dont want try catching any to have a look will stress further.

OK Rupe, has happenned again another one. Has a sore on each side. Had salted the tank and think it is more than 3ppt. (used about 1/2 bag salt for 3000 litres) I may have missed it from yesterday as wasn't floating on top, spotted it when got caught in the air bubbles. (pulled the net through tank and no more). Think have read here where sores are caused from stress, not game to net anymore to check incase stress them more.

Thunderstorm yesterday afternoon and temps have dropped down, today at present 27 and tank 26.

have you got any better pics? this looks a bit like what was happening to my Koi. My problem was a bacteria aerosomonas or aeromonas it was called.
I had to net, sedate and treat with a nasty oxidising agent know as Potassium permanganate, or Condy's Crystals
worked a treat, no not all fish survived the process, all ulcers closed within 48hrs.

Thanks KP, Will try to take photo without the flash (next time) no more deaths today. Off to bowls so will have to wait, priorities. BTW Ph 8.0, Amm trace, Nitrite 0-.25, Nitrate 5-10 they are eating Ok.

pH of 8.0 is quite high... ammonia is more toxic with higher pH. so be careful - I don't think this is to blame for the ulcers.

But the bacteria eating my Koi is always around, and is usually shrugged off by the fish. It takes hold (mind you this info was specific to Koi) when the temps rapidly raise, allowing the bacteria to grow, and before the fish is accustomed to the temps, ie they're quite stressed.
Stressed fish die easily.

KP, I did lower my Ph with acid had it to 6 - 6.5 but in few days was back up again. So thought would just give it time. Have added shellgrit before so that may be keeping it up. You may be right with the fungal disease, have been doing a lot of reading and came across this site

have taken another photo (another cark) have to download them yet. Has got me thinking to when I bought the fish home and had the sleepy cod in a small tank, one of the big ones jumped out and hit his head on the edge of some corrugated iron. He looked ok but after awhile developed this sore on his head, put him into isolation and salted to about 10ppt for a few days (seemed to be doing the trick) but then temps started to get too high and put him back with the others. It looks like that fungal infection, so will get some murcurechrome and paint him red.
Just wondering if this fungal disease gets into the other tanks (IBCs) as all 3 are interconnected.

What has this got to do with water coolers, silly bugger, will continue on in "Sick Fish"

Thanks Faye, I am sure Jamie will transfer my discussion with KP into here as well (under water cooling), anyhow to continue the drama and bring everyone up to date:

Decided to take the sump IBC offline and pump from the middle one, higher IBC drains to the middle one (GBs drain into these two). Now I have a 1000 litre quaratine tank Pumped JP tank down to check on the rest, used my big fishing environet and tried to catch them. Well managed to get about another 6 with sores and dropped them into end tank. put about another 5Kg of salt into tank. I have 10 large sleepy cod in here, but should be OK as couple of the JPs found their way into it via the pipes before I put a strainer on it and still surviving. So will monitor water condition closely and begin to lower the Ph (slowly) read somewhere 6.5, that be right? Strange I have SPs in the 1st tank and no deaths (yet). OK piccies.
