First of all I would like to thank all the members and administrators for al lthe post i have read so far... I have move to Santiago Dominican Republic after spending 23years living in NYC..Well to tell you that shock is an understatement.. i was born in Santiago and migrate to the us at the age of 6 with my parents...I grew up with a love for my home land and wanted to give something back... So after a successful business venture in the US i decided that I would give a opportunity to the land of paradise as we Dominican call it..
I have been always fascinated with fish nad home gardening.. i have a mix education with Degrees in Culinary art, Geo Business and International trade. My current project is set in my back yard.. I am attempting ot produce enough vegetables, tilapia and red claw that my hose income would be enough to support a family of 4.
So far i have 2 in ground fish tank that i had build as a water wader.. This will be the heart of the project... I am planing of using most of the available free space my concrete construction has given me...My house roof is made of solid 9inch concrete slab and is reinforce to hold as much weight as i ll need for the grow bed...
I plan on having my fish tanks in the backyard and serve also as a backyard entertainment and use the narrow hallways and falt roof to plant as much as I can.
We will use energy efficient pumps that can be run with my power inverter... ....
I believe that a solid business model for this region is one that a couple can work from home taking care fo the Ap system and have a telecommuting job and make about 2500USD per month enough to have a nice life style....In the next 18motnh we(will all your help) will test my theory...If successful Ill be able to provided tech support and help with small business loans for those families that want to reduce thier impact in the local and global environment...
Ill post pictures of what i have so far and will be asking for help...
Budget for this project 1500usd human labor included...

Opus Gamma Inc
Dominican Republic.
till tomorrow..Ill take pictures and up load

Good luck on your project and I hope your idea/model works and is viral. The more farming we return to the backyard the more we can return to the wild beauty of the outdoors.

Hi Opus welcome...

Is your proposed model based on a type of "franchise" system??

Water movement (filtration) and aeration are the keys to succesfull fish raising... do the local areas have reliable power systems to maintain both these key factors...

Or are you intending to run them off solar???

Thanks to all that posted..
Let me give a briefly description of my project nad areas..
We are looking at urban backyard and roof farming. Model is base on adding value to the homes and increasing quality of life and also help keep homes cooler in the summer..
We live in a city with close to 1,000,000 people nad about 400,000 homes of wish more Than 40% have concrete flat roof and atelease 400sf of farming space.
If my model works we cna duplicate it nand get people involve..as i said my initial goal it to set up my home as a model nad thne get 20 young couples to do the same ...
From the work from home model we cna trained them and provide them with work opportunity that are green in the way that they dont need to travel to produce money...
As i said in my original post..I ma a firm beliver in work form home and if you add backyard aquaponics and a recycle program we are doing more Than the average eco lover....because your changing a lifestyle...and in a city like Santiago the food run is cut down to 80miles
mil gracias por el apoyo..Extremely grateful for your support.
Albin,Karina and little Mia
