Here is a shot of the water colour in my tank now. It is becoming more clear slowly.
This coco peat is great stuff I reckon....The discolouration takes a long time to clear, but it is on the way.

Jeez - you went and got some advanced fish like we spoke about. Did you get them from SEQ Fish? How big do you reckon they are. I think they are quite a bit bigger (even now) than the advanced silvers I got from them. Looks like you may be the first one with a fish on the BBQ after all :D .

Joel can use the pix if he wishes. That one breaking the water would be about 1.2kg is my guess, the other one would be about a kilo. They are about 18 months old.
Trouble is, I doubt I will be able to BBQ them. They have names already,
#1 is named - Look at that #$@
#2 is named - There's another big #$@
One of my mates named them so I have to stick with that.....

It is addictive, watching those fish swim around the tank...... Silvers, they are always on the move......

Do you just have 2 big ones Murray? Do you think they will hassle the smaller ones when you get them into the tank?

VB, The guy assured me that they would not bother the small ones and they don't appear to be doing that although I have noticed that the Jades I have in the tank are no longer coming to the surface to eat the cos lettuce....Maybe I will move them out of there soon into another tank...maybe...I don't know, it is all a learning process and I am willing to take a few risks to find stuff out... so I will find out I guess.

They are looking great Murray. If you are still looking for some resources for bulk activated carbon I'll post up a few places.

Thanks Donarto, I have not been down to the brew shop yet, so I would really like to know some other sources of bulk activated carbon. I am really keen to experiment with that as a final filter to remove the "tea" colour If that is successful I will be using coco peat from now on for all my grow beds.

Thanks Rupert for the links, but that filter is for air, I need some bulk carbon to make up a filter for water. I can easily buy carbon filter cartridges for water filters from the local irrigation shop, but I would prefer to make an open filter in a container of some sort (a big flower pot) hung over the top of my fish tank, this will filter the water on it’s return to the tank and I can more easily see what junk is being removed etc. And it should be less expensive than buying a cartridge filter set-up.
I might have to go the cartridge way yet.
The eBay grow beds are good, bit small though, but they are cheap enough. Would be great for a small system to start with.
