I get IBC's from work, they had a chemical to keep the dust down on dirt roads, supposed to be environmentally safe.The stuff looks and smells like Elmers glue, the only problem is the people who use it make no attempt to clean them out and they have to have the top cut off to clean them out enough to make the drain valve work. The stuff peels off like Elmers glue, I think thats what it may be?

It is white glue, for like paper and stuff, what is PVA?

Polyvinyl acetate: The chemical base of archival white glue that dries transparent. Mixed with gel medium, it becomes water resistant. It is commonly used as an adhesive and also coating for decoupage.

we most commonly use it for gluing timber, if one can afford to wait the long cure time. It can also be used for paper and as the definition said, decoupage. I even once used it at school to make seed cones to hang from the balcony for birds to eat.
It's really strong, and perfectly clear once cured.

looks like i might be able to get a IBC thats had PVA glue in it just wondering if any one thinks it would have leached into the plasic ? ive read the MSDS for several brands and they seem to be pretty bland on the toxicisty info and ecological damage info sayin basicaly keep out of water ways

read one account of a guy in the UK who drank a shot of it with no affect -- didnt even seem to make him any smarter ......

just thought id ask the great brains trust that is the BYAP forum

I just sold my 300 gal one because of it had something toxic to fish in it to keep out of waterways. I paid $100 for it sold for $75 to get rid of it. I feel fairly confident I could have cleaned it but the last 6 I got were free and no nasties. These are 275 gallon but good enough considering the price They are cut up being filled with rainwater as I type We sure could use a good long break in the rain.

swap ya! 35 plus degrees c here in Melbourne Australia. If you give us the rain, I'll put in a good word and you can have some of this heat!

We used to use it to glue 'seed cones' together.
We were told it wouldn't hurt the birds, and it seemed not to, but that may be because birds will dehusk a seed first.

im guessing that it will just harden without leaching into the walls of the IBC might even be able to peel it off

ill have to see how it goes if i ever get it, will be able to use it for something else if its no good for AP

A different form of PVA glue - much more runny - is used as a release agent for fibreglassing. Great stuff.
