Ok the one you got reads 0 to 100 ppt so the reading in the picture is 50 ppt there is another one that reads 0 to 28 ppt and is easier to read wwith yours you cant get an accurate reading
But make the most of it it will let you know if theres salt around 3 ppt or if the plants have used it
I look about once every 3 months if its over 2 i leave it if under i add salt

On the left you have the specific gravity, on the right, the salinity. They pretty much go hand in hand, 1.022 SG (or about 30 ppt) is what I keep my reef tank at. That is way to salty for fresh water though, if I gather from the threads here, you are looking for something just above 1.000 SG which will be 1-2 ppt. My hydrometer only goes to 50ppt and makes reading for 30 pretty easy, but dificult for 0-5. As mentioned above, if you need to be able to read 1-2PPT, then you need a much smaller scale. I think 12 was mentioned above.

Got a digital waterproof salinity meter from gainexpress above... only problem is that the calibration feature does not seem to work well or at least as per the procedures stated in the instruction book. So in short, I might not have calibrated it properly.

But I tested it on my water out of the tap.... it was 0ppt... and tested it on the tank that I put approximately 3kg of salt in 1000L... it was rather close to 3ppt... out by 0.02ppt or something like that... I suppose it is all relative anyway, if the calibration was out slightly, it would move up or down along the scale... but the error/deviation should be the same as ppt increases...

Note that I believe temperature affects the reading... so they have models that have automatic temperature compensation (ATC)... the meter I got also measures and show temperature readings and takes readings in about 10 to 20secs...

Yeah, Brix is concerned with dissolved sugar - widely used in the food industry.

It is not a direct correlation to salinity.

Yep, the "brix" scale is used in the wine/vineyard industries to measure sugar content, usually grapes...
