Looking good quachy. Good inspiration for my system.

Might have to come down and pay a visit. I'm just over in Sunbury.

Been away for a week to Apollo Bay so got a friend to feed the fish while gone. System has been powering along. Lettuce really taking, basil going off, grapes and thornless blackberry shooting new leaves everyday. Will have to move the thornless b.berry as it grows pretty big. Will put it in it's own tub. Corn growing strong, tomatoes fruiting, cucumbers flowering and fruiting, beans going well, kiwi spreading, silverbeet and beetroot going crazy. All in all very happy. photos to come.

Have ordered 75 silver perch 50mm fingerlings, 50 40-50mm bass and 25 55mm catfish. arrive tomorrow. Can't wait.

quachy

Quachy, Its Simon, Tob's mate from back in the hills. Been loving keeping up to date with your system and checking out the photo's. I'll have to come down and check it out properly some time soon.
I've just posted a bit of a discription of my own system/s and the problems that i'm having. Check it out and feel free to give me any pointers if you have encountered any of the same problems. I'm going to try and add some photos tomorrow.

It's 10mm gravel of some sort:

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=6154&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=60

Here are some pics of root development.

Sowed seed first week of Nov (I think it was 2-3rd of Nov).

They took 2weeks to emerge some took 3, and others even up to 4wks, but that should give me a good staggered crop. Will do some more as I pull them up.

They arrive! All came in one bag, so the silvers and the bass are in my fingerling tank system (old system) and the catfish have gone into my bigger sp tank. here are the pics.

gave a pinch of feed (make that 2 pinches) to the little ones today, they started swarming and had a mini frenzy! Will give them some more tonight and then up to normal feeding tomorrow.

Next project for the AP system, turning a cast iron b/tub into a worm farm!

Damn thing is heavy, so will make sure I select a good site before constructing the frame to hold the tub. Am going to use 110mm pine posts and 50mm sleepers as my supports. The drain plug I will leave open to drain away the liquid gold into a holding tub with a tap (probably a black bin or something like that). As I have mentioned earlier before in this thread or another, I can get plenty of horse poo (plus food scraps) to feed the worms. Cheap worm food, which in turn becomes cheap fish food!

I read somewhere that worms are 70% ish protein! If this is true then fish should put the weight on quicker. Even if I don't go just worms as food, I may be able to go 50/50 worms/pellets. Save on money, as well as close the loop!
