I don't go to places I shouldn't on the web, but as a grown man, I feel I should have the right to visit dodgy sites should I choose.

dunno what we can do about it - talk to your local polly...

NO WAY would I even click on that link .. I am a teacher ... I rent my laptop .. NO way could I risk a hint of visits to inappropriate websites.

Any hint of anything "inappropriate" A teacher could lose a career.

However ..

May I as a teacher sunbathe nude on a nudist beach ? Or is tht llegal .... (Weirdo?)

We are losing our freedom!

People (nearmap.com Googleearth ) are taking ariel photos of us in Australia.. without our permission ... amazing detail ... loss of privacy! It needs to be stopped!

and I rekon in 2 - 5 years from now they will be able to identify facial features

May I get my gear off in my own private backyard ? Or will I get busted for exposure?

The pervert in this case is the companies that spy on us withut permission.

OH . and what bonus for Terrorists...

We are giving bombers directions!

OK .. Most serious terrorrist orgnizations will be way advanced regards this technology, but some amateurs will use it and innocent lives coud be lost bcause of it.

Please alert the politiicians to this risk!

Yep Johnnie... we live in a strange mixed up world of moral hippocracy...

Friends of mine... Lynne & Tiz (Antonio)... both primary school teachers, who wanted nothing more than to be teachers...

Posed semi-nude for Cleo... Lynne was sacked, despite the support of the parents at her school.. and has still not been re-instated... Tiz wasn't...

For this...

Yet we allow television ads and shows that are more suggestive... "tween" magazines that feature articles on "how to please your man orally"...

Market suggestive g-strings and bra sets to 6-9 yr olds... suggestive t-shirts and printed undies for kids... extol the virtues of celebrities like Paris Hilton and others via sex tapes... saturate our kids with suggestively clad men & women in music and game video clips... and allow our children to be dressed like hoes, pros & sl&ts...etc etc

And allow unlimited access for the posting of suggestive photos on facebook...

And think that is normal... yet the government wants to censor the internet... to "protect our children"...

I reckon they should ban a lot of other content on TV...in stores... and magazines... and legislate to prevent mothers dressing their kids inappropriately... before trying to limit the internet ... or artists...

But that's what it's really about... limiting/controlling the internet... a long held source of "free access" frustration...

It's not about the content... it's about control... :wink:

ISP's worldwide already ban over a 1000 known peodaphile sites... voluntarily, or by government/law enforcement request...

To me, I don't look for porn. Don't need it.

I agree bestiality, pedophilia and other *disgusting* content is not for my house.

But first it is going to be explicit content, then, hang on a bit, and all of a sudden the minor political parties websites will all of a sudden become very hard to get to.

Then, well you know what? these crazy guys at the Aquaponics site over there do not tie in with our (the government) agenda, lets block their site too.

it is the erosion of basic freedoms that bothers me. it is a very slippery slope. That and the fact that that the technical methods being employed, with what they are trying to do is way off base.

They are saying that "we are doing this for the children", well, I can tell you this, *MY* children do NOT get access to the internet unsupervised.

it is that simple - the internet is not a baby sitting tool, and should not be... it is a big wide scary world out there.

However, it is the old saying that always comes to mind....

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I had no trouble loading it nor accessing the list from Sweden. I do however doubt that it is the real list. How would we know if the list is real? The government could leak a misleading list and those opposed could also, I doubt the government will confirm any list as true.

As many have said the real issue is a political agenda that will have no real effect in the area it is supposed to. Any activity that is illegal should be pursued by the police, not by censorship.

"The price of freedom is eternal vigilance."
-- Thomas Jefferson

For those that are concerned I suggest let your local polies know you will not vote for anyone that intends to continue this farce.

As with most things you have to decentralize things. Government controlling it for the whole of Australia is not the answer. ISPs can provide content filtering when people ask for it, concentrate at the lower levels, release content filtering software that works well and make it available free to those people who want it in their homes on their computers..

I do agree with the previous comments though, strange how our society tends to consider it fine to show brutal killing, where as sexual act are frowned upon and taboo.

In fact, I use it already via OpenDNS so that this crap cannot be viewed by my kids.

However I *CHOOSE* to use it.

That my friend, is freedom.

My understanding was that the list was going to block anything that was considered “illegal”. As X rated material is illegal through most STATES of Australia this implies that any form of porn that is more than R rated could be blocked. This could also extend to R rated games as these are currently illegal in Australia as well.

Biggest problem though is that there is no visibility of what gets added, there have already been cases where sites have been added to the list that should not be but because the list is hidden you don’t know about it. This leave the opportunity of abuse, I’m just waiting for the liberal party’s website to make it on to the list :)

If you wait for the return of the current "Howard-retards"... the only thing NOT on the list would be the Liberal Party website... :wink:

Where have you seen evidence that the liberals will introduce internet censorship? Seems to me labour is the main party that want to centralise control and make us a nanny nation.

Howard already gave the Feds the right to monitor all electronic traffic... along with mail... without the necessity of a court order...

Passed sedition laws that made it illegal for more than three people to gather and made it an offence to "criticise the government"....

Where were you for the last ten years... :lol:

No he didn't... the expansion of the Chinese economy... and the Australian availability of the minerals needed for the Chinese economic growth... gave us an expected and unparalleled economic boom...

The Howard governement merely resided over a period of great prosperity... and frankly... did diddly bloody squat to re-invest in infrastructure during the abundnace of economic wealth...

It's pretty easy to "balance a budget"... when the money is coming in faster than you can spend it...
