My PP are coming out and are very sociable have had them 2 years though, I feed the Goldies small floating granules and PP come up to eat them as well.
BSF pod has a new batch of maggots and also a 600gm trout that did the suicidal thing because someone forgot to put the net back on tank  will see what this lot of maggots do, still need to harvest some, the race is on

plenty of maggots in the harvest pod, but I doubt the ones I am looking for, they look like maggots and not what faye gave me before

The BSF's are pretty different to the other maggots because they are fairly flat. They only go dark after a while.

I spent about an hour straining BSF larva out of gray sludge from my brothers failed compost bucket (no Drain). I think that I got about 1000 total. I have my BSF in my green house so I am hoping to get a closed loop with the breeders staying in and reproducing over the winter. I have been working on a BSF bin for awhile but I havent had a chance to test until now.

Really ? Wow - Only had mine in for couple of weeks so maybe they'll get friendly once they've been in for a while.

Photo later, but I am sure the harvested maggots are not the ones I need as a lot of dead house flies in pod, but 2 positives, the first the harvesting actually works and ramp is fine, the second I saw 2 BSF's on top of pod last night, so next wave should be the real thing, chooks liked the first harvest this morning, they looked like maggots of flies so best let chooks have them

Pretty sure I had a single BSF pupae last night in the harvest bucket, but was a lot smaller than the ones I saw that Faye had. Didn't have the camera handy, but I will make sure I get a photo tonight if there's anything there.

The Pygmy Perch pecked at it, but it sank before I got to see if they ate it or not. Guess the yabbies will get it.

Very interesting Nigel, the batch coming out now is actually much smaller than the previous season. I am wondering if these are the overwintered ones?

The photos below are what I'm getting at the moment, along with some housefly maggots still. The housefly maggots are about 1 cm in length so it gives a fair idea how small my BSF(?) larvae are

My harvested maggots which are obviously Maggots and some dead flies, next lot of maggots are munching away, I did see BSF's ontop of pod so fingers crossed, but still happy that the ramp etc works and maggots get out of pod :D
