I love watching all the critters in my garden.
I post my pics on Face Book. Almost all of them are taken in my garden.

I am trying to identify as many of the bugs as I can, but it is not easy.
And many are too fast to get good shots of.
I am hoping for a new camera for Xmas with telephoto and close up lenses. LOL

I love bugs. Does anyone know what this critter is (all I know is that it's an insect because it has 6 legs!)

a tiny bit of quick insect id for folks :)

BUGS have piercing mouthparts. Their mouth looks kind of like a straw that they stick into their prey (plant or animal) and suck the juices out of it

BEETLES have grasping mouthparts. The parts will look kind of like another set of arms, often modified for grasping or ripping their prey.

DRAGONFLIES have their wings outstretched when at rest, sideways.

DAMSELFLIES have their wings back along their bodies.

interesting distinctions there Jaymie, thanks.
Is the 'piercing mouthpart' a proboscis? Does this make Marchflies a bug?

Wow, Great pics.
Makes me even more determined to get a new camera. LOL

The first appears to be a longicorn beetle of some type.
Next perhaps a tangle vein fly, and I think the last is another robber fly

Flowers. I have lots of flowers. Paper daisy's seem to attract quite a few varieties. As does calendula, and I've got marigolds coming up now. The great thing about having flowers in the aquaponics setup is that the flowers grow up to about your eye height. So you walk out there and you're looking straight into the microcosm without needing to bend your knees.

These pesky green caterpillars have *just* turned up in my GB's. Noticed a few tiny holes in the Bok Choy, flipped the leaf over and these tiny tiny caterpillars are hiding there (maybe 3-4mm long). I brushed them off as well as any eggs I found.

Purchased Dipel today and applied liberally to all leaves. That'll learn 'em! Aint no caterpillar gonna raid my patch!

It wasn't agressive. I tried to get it to rear up by nudgeing it with a stick but it scuttled off into the bush so these 2 photos are the only ones I got. :(

Cheers
