now that little fish does look interesting, i think that that little guy has the potential to grow to a resonable size judging from the size of its eyes, but i have no idea what it is but i does look like a perch? big eyes like that sugest it is a prediter to me.
keep it in a tank and see what it turns into?

good luck.

Well I've put a few in the tank no idea how many but I'd say lots. Several hundred maybe. Now I've just got to feed them.

Well not knowing what they are I'd rather not say. However, since I havn't been further away than Ballarat recently you can probably guess the general region :)

*smirk* We still have to get together to go fishing Stu!
DW wants more variety of coldwater fish for the indoor tank. So some of the more slow growing species would be fine. We need to organise a weekend. I'll pm you the next time I'm free, and hope it suits you, seeing as I seem not to be able to be free when you contact me ;-)

The deer are red deer. Samba have very rounded ears at the top unlike reds that are more pointed.

That's one little deer stu! what was he? a red like the earlier pics?
Also do you have a fox skin? you're shooting with the wrong device when photographing a fox!

Now THIS is a SAMBAR.

I know it is not a good photo but can anyone tell me what this is? There were hundreds of the little things.

Looks like it might be a NEMATALOSA EREBI juvenile Bony Bream

This is a great database for fish I.D's http://db.angfa.org.au/album.php?dir=fish&page=336
They also have a forum with some very clued up native fish nuts, you need to be a member to post there but I can post any pics or Q's if people have them, Just not tonight as work has there forum blocked.

Well I'm pretty sure it is not a bream. It was taken from a "dam" at the top of one of the tributaries of the Loddon.

I was just thinking that I wish I could edit this post and then look

The edit button is back

Also caught a flat-headed gudgeon from the same spot.

To be honest, my initial rection was Carp or Redfin. However as I can't tell what the dorsel fins look like in that photo I'm really not sure.

Any chance you could scetch out the shape of the little guy(s)?

here's a good link to try and see what you have, though it doesn't describe juveniles of the species. http://www.dpi.vic.gov.au/DPI/nreninf.n ... 6E464?open

So I've gone fishing again and I have two questions.

What fish are these?

How many are there?

yeah Stuart, there's not much to work with with that photo, mate.

I'd back Burnsy's guess, on both counts, but that's all it is

I was just teasing

They are definitely not mosquito fish although there was more than a couple of big fat (gravid) mosquito fish at the same spot. There was also another fish which was very long and tubularesque.

Any way I think with this photo of one of the largest that I caught (40-50mm) we can work out what they are....
