If the beds have plenty of plant cover it might not matter, the problem I have at the moment is all my seeded stuff is still small and I have lots of growbed gravel soaking up the sun, during the heat of the day the gravel is almost too hot to hold hand on. In the greenhouse system I noticed plants kept the tank about 3c cooler than not having them.

I too have a couple of beds like this.
shade would help, it is just that I do not have the infrastructure for shading or cooling :-(

even a temp setup can help bricks on the gb timber and shade cloth over those? Or maybe scrap pipe with 90 or t pieces anything that can support light weight shade, last year we had some new fruit trees put in and the heatwave was killing them till we rigged shade with bed sheets we only left it on in the worst part of the day but they all survived.

I will see what I can rig up today.
2 tanks get morning sun, the shed shades them for the rest of hte day. I think all other tanks are permanently shaded, until late in the day at the very least.

OK!
Tank water was 26 this morning, and is now 25
Some fish at the top of the tank again tonight, but they startled away quickly so they're not TOO stressed yet.
If we can get through Saturday's 34 and windy (my GB shelter wont survive windy) then all will be well.

interesting Kuda, i was reading about your tommies issues going back last summer and i am finding a very similar situation happening with mine....

bought as seedlings, grew from about 200mm to 300mm in a week or two then stopped. bottom leaves started to turn blackish/brown and curl up. pulled one out tonight and the roots are mosly brownish in colour. wondering if i should pull the other 5 plants out as well. was it the high ph? my water is around 8.1 and although initially washed my clay medium i should have washed it better. also pulled out mostly dead basil seedlings. trying to start from seeds now as not sure why most plants aren't growing at all. Nitrates are high and ammonia and nitrites are both zero

22 degrees this morning, and happier looking trout for me... lets hope they can hold out.
as for tommies: I have NFI, this year they're working fine.
I'm no horticulturist, I just plant and hope.

As suggested I just tried blowing air over the tank. Not having a blower I checked eBay, which is covered with blower-vacs. Blower-vacs? I say... I have one of them!
OMG, it puts a big hole in the surface of the water.
and it's SO loud, I'd forgotten how loud it was, the neighbours would go berserk, one girl hates my AP enough already to constantly complain!

24 degrees now.
have just installed a small fan over the tank to see what effect it might have.
very low sunload today, but the day is warm.
let's hope I can get the temps below 20 by nightfall or at least by sunrise.

have you noticed in the shower when you bend down to pickup the soap the water is cooler on your back ]
[yea i know dont bend down for the soap if your in the footy shower  ]

OK, not cooling exactly, but perhaps stopping over heating.
a touch below 24 now.
Yes Milne I understand about coolign towers.
I have one designed in my head, but I need an extra pump (the only spare one leaks into the water
and I need to build it. I simply haven't had the time. I'm thinking after work Monday will be the earliest I can get to it, but we're expecting all sub 30 days until then.
Trout are not at the surface, and whilst not feeding, do not appear too harassed.
