The "good people of Thailand" are all smiles and happiness UNTIL you learn the language. Some are just fake
( SOME !!! )
In my opinion, calling SOME of them fake, isn't actually the most accurate way to put it. Mostly it's indeed not what it seems to be to people with different cultural background and behavior. Let me put it that way: for a Farang (foreigner) it takes time to make the difference between a happy, welcoming or charming smile, - and a so called *screw-you-smile*. But there's even much in between that has to be discovered eventually. For Thai people it also takes time to make the difference between
real anger of a foreigner and a quickly passing nervous breakdown caused by too much moon shine and a chronic cultural chock.

The comments and discussions regarding foreigners ....., mainly spoken in LAOS language would make a sailor blush.
You are right, some Northeastern farmer's daughters can be really blunt and "djai dam" when they are among themselves. But than again it really depends on the sailor if he'd actually blush or not... if ever he understood

What is actually discussed behind the scenes, really depends on the sailor (actually the individual) they're talking about. Because if it happens that you do not fit into the common cliché and they decide that you are a nice chap, - there will not be much lao gossip or malicious paraphrasing about you. There will be rivalry only - but than again I'm not sure if that would sound like royalty-chat
