Picked up 85 murray cod today of glenwaters native fish farm. Got the last of the 2-3inch fingerlings (35) and 50 1inch fingerlings. I transferred my silvers from the existing system to the new system 15 in total at about 15cm average. Didn't take photos sorry or do weigh ins as I was a bit worried about stressing the silvers out too much. I put the 50 murray cod into the small system and will get them up to a big size before putting them into the big system.

John mentioned that 2nd week of Dec, he will have more stock of silvers, bass, goldens, murrays and catfish. I will be going back in December for silvers and catfish!

Water still cloudy, but clearing up albeit slowly. Need to cover the tanks with shade cloth and build kiddie covers now. Job for the weekend if this damn weather cools! System reading:

29deg (gets heaps of sun so heats up during the day big time!)
ph 7.4
Amm 0 - trace
Nitrite 1
Nitrate 10

Looking good so far!

Hi Quachy - System is looking good. Do you think you could post some details regarding the plumbing setup you have there? It looks like you're using a CHIFT but can't see how that gets to the growbeds from your pics. What dimensions of pipe are you using and how much water are you pumping at that head height?

Cheers,
James

James, I am running a CHIFT PIST system, using a 8000lt/hr pump. At the head height I estimate 6000lts at least. I have run a return back into the sump so more like 3500-4000lt/hr. From the tanks, they are 90mm pipes reduced to 25mm. I have 25mm standpipes and in hindsight should have gone a bit bigger. The return is through 2 90mm pipes to allow all gbs dumping at the same time plus plenty of room for error.

I will measure the exact outflow from the fish tanks tomorrow and do some maths to get a more accurate pumping rating.

Thanks Quachy - Yeh I thought that might of been 90mm stormwater, but how are you reducing that to 25mm?

I look to have similar height differential between tank & GB's as you, maybe more. I have 50mm SLO rising into 4 * 25mm inlets, it only copes with 2,500L/hr, I estimate I'm bleeding off equivalent of 1000-1500L/hr @ head height (which is a waste of electricity really). Judging by your results my restriction is most likely the 50mm SLO inside the tank more than anything.

I went to reece plumbing and asked them for fitting to reduce from 90mm to 25mm pressure and they came up with the goods. Don't exactly know what each item was, will check out my receipt tonight if I still have it.

No receipt sorry!

System test results:

temp - 30 deg
pH 7.4
Amm - 0-trace
Nitrite - 0-trace
Nitrate - 20

I think I am officially cycled.

With these results, I am guessing that the cod and silvers are feeding but can't see them.

Will keep feeding the silvers about 2 tablespoons of 2mm barra feed and the same to the cod.

When I can see them feed, I will up the feed or reduce as required.

Should I go higher or less guys and gals?

Cool! Too hot to sleep, so just shoved in 4 charlotte seed potatoes to see how they go in the gravel I have. Will be interesting to see how they go.

Silvers came to the surface to feed tonight!!!! I know that at least some of them were going strong. Once again. can't see the murray's they seem to be pretty boring fish, but hopefully they taste as nice as the caught ones!!!! I need to provide shade to the growbeds and the fish tank, water temp up to 30 deg tonight, should cool down heaps with the cooler weather that has just come through. Green algae growing on the sides of the IBCs now, so will get them covered hopefully by the weekend.

Bought 2 of these

http://www.guppysaquariumproducts.com.a ... _1059.html

got these as they push out more air per wattage of power.

I should mention that I have 70+ Murray Cod in the tank and with the hides I never see any of them.... and I have clear water.

Still trying to decide if I should remove the hides.

I have hides in the tank with 35 2-3" cods, but none in the tank with 50 1-2" cods. Still don't see them feed, but hopefully they get used to me soon!

Sunburn on the leaves has killed off heaps of my seedling damn it! Well I think it's sunburn. So put up some shade. Hopefully this will help to keep the water temp a little lower and more stable.
