very nice F& F, it would seem that your're done! Ammo and nitrite still zero, rise in nitrates, and a downward shift in ph. Did you use fishtank water / filter gunk ?

might be time for a little more shell grit if you want. sprinkly a hand full over the beds.

Hi steve none of the above just time [how much more shell grit] will be away most of weekend system will have to look after its self

Just my personal opinion, but the lowest i'd feel comforable allowing MY system to drift is 6.8

Maybe sprinkle a small handful of shell grit over each bed and water it in with system water.

What's the new tank made out of F&F - what is it sealed with?

Hi its plastic and it seems to be plastic welded you know heat then stick it as fast as possable its flimsy hense the wood outside It was originaly made as a grease trap in a resterant i was told at a cost of $3.000 the bit i cut off is lying behind

Will be away for a couple of days when I come back I am going to pipe water in and out of the new bed .The big question is seeing the bed is to be used for yabbys duck weed and or floating plants is it best to use filtered water from the grow beds or straight from the fish tank i.e. with solids and on the return feed it back to the filtered water section or straight to the fish tank I can do either or both Thanks

Nice one F&F...

I would think that filtered is best, ie on the return from the growbeds. With my little floating raft experiement I've found that sedement builds up on the roots dangling in the water and whenever I lift the foam sheeting up, clouds of sedement are released from the roots...

With such a nice big tank, it might be an idea to go for half the tank as a floating raft style, and half for growing duckweed/azola

Duckweed and redclaw prefer reasonably still water or a small steady flow, so refrain from having a GB emptying directly into that tank unless the flow is cut down

Another titbit I learnt on this forum

With farming of redclaw, they use water traps of swiftly flowing water, the redclaw climb up against the flow and are easily harvested

F&F has a funky setup in that he has a reutrn water sump that pumps filtered water to his nft guttering. I be tapping into that line and have a slow flow in one end and out the other around mid height. maybe offset the inlet and outlet one on the right side one end, the other left side other end to discourage "dead spots"

Thanks for all the good info looks like from the filtered water tank to the lettuce channels from them to one end of the bed then back to the filtered water tank it gets a 50% water change from the grow beds every 1 hr on my trip away i got what looks like that water cellery and some water mint the lady said keep this away from creeks [ Will try some in a raft should be safe there ]
