As I said, you can do it that way but I much prefer how Dave's system is currently set up with the fish tank gravity feeding the grow beds and the sump being a clean water environment.

Yep, I agree. We'll leave it as is - the water is clearing up nicely too. Dave's already talking about an extra grow bed, and I wouldn't mind having a crack at a row or two of NFT lettuces or similar.

If you go for the NFT, use clean water pumped from the sump tank. Might be able to do by either splitting off the flow to the fish tank but if that pump is running on a timer, it might be even easier to just put another small pump in to run the NFT pipes continuous.

No, the sump pump is running 100% of the time.

I'd anticipated running a T off the line to the FT, so it's nice and clean...

So, an update since Dave seems to be shy on here.

Marron got added to the FT, and appeared to be quite happy. Then it looks like they somehow had a crack at the goldfish because all of a sudden there's some happy looking Marron and two goldfish in the system.

Last weekend, Dave and I headed up to Gidge to pick up some Silver Perch. Relocated the Marron to the sump, and popped 61 SP into the FT, and all is well.

Get a call from Dave today to say that he can't find any of them in there. The top of the tank is covered securely, and we don't think there's much chance they swum out the SLO into the growbeds...

So either the two goldfish have had a great meal, or there's a mystery predator on the loose.

Water tests are good, but now the nitrates are dropping as there's very little fish load in there. Water cleared up, but is now quite green. I still reckon there's a bunch of SP in there that Dave can't see... We'll see. (Ha! See what I did there?).
