Have seen miracle fruit before but never tried them.. I am a big fan of stevia.... Stevia is fantastic and I've had a few plants over the years, it's another plant like hemp, very useful yet banned due partly to bad publicity pushed by companies with vested interests in similar products..

Quote:
1991 Stevia Banned by the FDA

Sometime in the late 1980's an anonymous interest filed a trade complaint against stevia when it began to show up in the US. One of the companies using stevia at that time was Celestial Seasonings Herbal Tea Company. The FDA ordered them to stop producing their teas, which they said were "adulterated." Another tea company, Traditional Medicinals, had their entire inventory of teas containing stevia confiscated by the FDA in an unexpected raid. The FDA even ordered a "book burning" in Texas, of stevia related books. Fortunately, the ACLU and the public heard of this and the FDA backed down.

There's still a lot of bad publicity still floating around.... I guess theres BIG bucks involved...

Interesting info here, have a read.

Crazy........

If any one gets hold of some miracle fruit seeds or berries or cuttings could you please let me know? I'd really like to add it to steve's " you gotta try this" collection of plants :)

Glad someone had the balls to link to such info. I sometimes feel that people will look at me funny if i start posting stuff like that. Since its out......seriously, don't touch the stuff.

Hows this for a conspiracy? Remember all the health problems from service people in the gulf war? Well most of the drinks generously donated were artificially sweatened (wouldn't want the combatants getting fat :)) pallets upon pallets were left in the heat obviously. one of the components of the artificial sweatener breaks down at a certain temperature into (don't quote me i'm going from memory) formic acid and formeldehyde. Join the dots :) wanna hear the funniest thing? the breakdown starts to happen at around 35C or 36C. A gold star to any one who can tell me the human body temp?

I have a close friend who is a coke zero, pepsi max, whateverelse lite junki. She has always had and continues to have severe migranes. But do you reckon she'll give up the nutra even to test the theory? Nup, but she'll pop 4 panadols in a day no worries :(

I get soooo frustrated....... some times i wish i was still "plugged in"

Steve

FYI stevia makes up something like 75% (once again from memory) of japans "non-calorific" sweatener market

VB, got a cooky idea for ya. Your tub should just fit inside a polystyrene friut box. Get one and do that, watch your temps go up with the same heater.

Thaumatococcus daniellii

I worked on this in the late 70's ... it was an amazing plant. The seed when dried had a stiff white part that was broken off. This was the sweet bit! We were developing a machine to break the white part off. The dust generated by the machine collected inside your nose. When you had a big sniff .. it was much sweeter than sugar.

How about that ... sugar coated snot!
