The water temp in my fish tank was 21degrees at 7 am . I think it is going to get VERY hot. I am thinking of putting extra air into the tank. Is that a good idea? do you think the benefits of added ozygen will be cancelled out by the heat it adds to the system?

Go on put the extra air in... OBO answered my same question in earlier post...

Trying an experiment.

I got given a can fridge for a birthday a few years ago that I have never used. I am trying to hook up some Polly pipe and run water threw the fridge. It probably will not have the guts to cool down 1000L but I can chuck a bag of ice in to give it a boost.

First try had too many leaks, I am now waiting for the silicon to dry and will try again shortly.

Well it's all hooked up now. Current temp 21, I will now stop adding ice to the main tank and se how it looks.

I chucked 3 bags of ice in the fridge to give it a kick start so I'll see how long that takes to melt.

I doubt that two bottles of frozen water would make any noticeable difference to 1000 litres, Maybe there is a physicist amongst us who can do the figures and tell us how many bottles of frozen water into a 1000 litres at 25 degrees to drop one degree?

Making some assumptions; but the information is close enough for planning purposes...

Quantity of ice (g) 9600
Initial temp ( C ) 0
Quantity of Water (L) 1000
Initial temp ( C ) 25
Ice to 0C 0
To melt the ice 3206400
Tank temp after melting ice 24.23401816

Equilibrium Temp 24.00358375

So you will need about 9.6L of ice in 1000L to drop the temp 1 degree.

My tank is currently sitting on 24degrees. I have put four bags of ice in at 10am, three bags at 12pm and 4 frozen milk cartons at three pm. The ice hasn't seemed to maintain the temperature or reduce it. It keeps on going up. Fish seem okay......no floaters yet. I placed extra air in this morning. Lets hope tomorrow is cooler.

during the day when the temp is warm Try measuring your air temp [put your air stone in a couple litres water and measure temp and after 1/2 hr measure temp]

Well I think your ice did something... my tank is currently at 25.7 degrees... I ran out of milk cartons by 12 noon...
So far I think the fishes look okay... no floaters... not sure about sinkers... Will check a bit later...

Well my tank is 1000L. Air temperature according to my "uncalibrated" ambient temperature sensor, 37 degC.
I have covered my tank with a tarp for months now. Not sure whether the tarp is actually shading the tank or creating an "oven", but I was not about to take it off and risk it... But yes, it was pretty hot today...

So how do you know if the fish are suffering and its time to harvest (apart from floaters that is :D )? My 1100 tank was at bout 25 at bout 4 and i've run out of ice :( , Got my family to freeze alot for me, so all of there freezers are packed as well :D .
Was almost thinkin bout havin a nice trout dinner tomoz (only got 14 fish and most at a decent size) and invite friends around and just harvest them all and bite the bullet and get barra and make a solar collector to help with heating.
What do ya reckon?

Cheers
Jono
