It's starting to warm up over here, temps up to 30 on Saturday apparently. Do we have anything to start worrying about with our trout or will a short spell be ok. Just in case I have made a few large ice blocks to throw in. I'm hoping to get another month out of them if I can

Short spells are ok. Just monitor the temps, no food if the water is above 22 degrees.

If it is going to be hot I advise adding coolant(ice) early
...rather than trying to bring it down just keep it low as long as poss.

Lots of air as well?? They are predicting 33degC air temp this Sat.

Would pumping hot air into the tank negate the coolant??

The benefits of the extra air would probably outwiegh the slightly extra heat.

I have knocked up a simple frame out of a few pieces of wood and covered it with shade cloth to try and keep the direct sunlight off the tank. As an added bonus it has cleared out all the algee in the tank as well.
Might start putting some ice in on Friday, certainly on Saturday. Good thing that it is a weekend, can also spray some water around the place.

As long as you grow sun tolerant plants in the sunny spots its good.

Thanks guys... I suppose I will find out soon.... might need to re-plan the layout of plants... but well it is all part of the learning experience...

Takes a year or two to learn what works where.

I plant tall sun lovers like corn in rows, then plant the less sun tolerants like silverbeet and other broadleaves below them.

My water temp rose to 22degrees today. I hate to think what it will reach tomorrow. What temperature did everyone else reach?
