I wasn't on about the losses, as far as I know ricks are still below 100mm which is way too slow growth rate, so same as you graham no growth,

I think mine were too small last year, and got them too late in the season, this year will be the tester for me...

If the ones I have do not much, then I'll probably agree on the SP front. At least they are at a size now that I'm not worried about the pump sucking them up, and they can actually get some feed into them that's not just dust!

Can anyone in Perth organise a group buy in from Broome Tafe? Barra become exceptionally cheap in lots of 1000+ - like around 0.65 each for 50mm fish.

Get a couple of thousand and it becomes very viable. I want at least 500 at this stage.

You'd be struggling to get 50mm out to size, and the freight and packaging might be a bit of a killer... I'll try and post up the details tomorrow, Jessy sent them through to me just haven't got around to putting them up yet..

I would be in for 150 or maybe 200 but 100mm long maybe necessary.

EB, how big would 50mm grow over summer??

Depends on the summer temps you get. The barra I grew out where about 100-150mm, about 45g from memory...

Well I am up for 50 if this turns out to be viable.. not much compared to some but I only have a 1000L tank... 50 is probably my limit...

I think that was the starting size and weight rick.

100mm is $1.25 each per 1000 + postage.

Half a kg is big enough if trout are anything to go by.

providing the postage is not prohibitive that sounds OK for me.

OK, price list below... Keep in mind that the transportation costs are $9 per foam box, $20 packing fee, and then about costs $125 per box freight to Perth. So a total of about $155 per box and I don't know how many fish you get in a box.

Thing is OBO, the bigger the fish the harder it is to transport. You should give them a phone call and have a chat with Anthony or Jeff. They are the Hatchery Managers at Broome Tafe. Great for advice, and follow ups later about their fish,
