Interesting, but I would not worry: it probably will not breed (no mates) and is probably not something that will be a significant problem for plants or fish.

From the new pics, it is a Nymph of some sort. The larval stage of a Dragon Fly, Lacewing, Water Scorpion, Swimmer Beetle or whatever you have in Canada that is similar. Fish love nymphs!
We use Dragon Fly nymphs for trout bait when fishing in Oz, we call them Mud Eyes and they can get rather large (not 8', but about 2"!!).
Just feed em to your fish!

Cheers IanK

It kinda looks like a miniature earwig...almost.

How would I grow one to a larger size in a container?

Hmm, the only reason why I got these pics was another one -- or the same one appeared in the sump tank again.

If another one shows up in there I might have to worry -- only if it turns out to be earwigs because they are just too ugly. If not, I'll just do what you guys say: feed them to the fishies :)

I get similar in my sumps too. always thought they were dragon fly.
there tend to be less when the sump has goldfish in it.
