I stayed up at O'reilys in the rain forest in southern Queensland, well walking distance from NSW. We went on a morning bird walk and we saw and fed the Blue Bower Birds and Regent Bower who is a brilliant yellow and black. They would literally eat from your hands. I must post a video of it when I get my ext. HDD back. I strongly recommend a stay there if you ever get the chance... even the meals at the guest house were fantastic.

I've been staying up there all my life (easier when they are relations  ) and have seen the birds lots of times. They're great aren't they?

Unbelievable!!! We have mocking birds here. They are quite fun. They sit on top of the roof, mimic other birds, and fly little loop-de-loos to attract attention. But the chainsaw songs beat them hands (wings?) down!

*sigh* I'm a rural Telstra customer ergo no broadband... ever! Lucky to have dial up... as long as there's no wind... *sigh*

I used to live in the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne opposite a state forest and lyrebirds are quite common there. In our stretch of the street there were 19 kids between 7 houses and one day I was in the garden and I could hear a kid crying out 'Mum! Mum!', knew it wasn't any of my kids and didn't think much more about it for another 5 or so minutes until I thought maybe one of the neighbours kids might be in trouble in the forest (all the kids used to build forts etc... just off the road) so I went to have a look and met another mum coming to investigate whose kid was squawking up a storm and we found a lyrebird... it gave us a good laugh, obviously it had been living opposite us for a while... they're pretty amazing
