Heyas,

Heres some pics and info about my little system so far. Still have a bit of work to do, and things to buy and make before I have a good balance but im getting there.

Here is my humble beggining - this is actually my second attempt (the poor fishies from my first attempt, may they rest in peace)

Once my ammonia, nitrites and nitrate readings were all good i decided to mess with everything by digging a big hole! this approximately 2700litre pond is the home to 18 goldfish. The plan is to buy some nice big grow beds, but that will have to wait for a while. I think i bit off more than i could chew to be honest. Come summer i should have some barra to put in there. Currently water is being filtered by a 3500LPH dirty water pump connected to nice big aqua one pressurised filter made for a 10000Litre pond. With DO being further increased by a very large piston style airpump an air curtain and 2 nice big airstones.

My more modest, and more likely to be balanced system is in the shed. The shed has some clear roof panels which let in a decent amount of light. There is more light on an overcast day than the 130watt hydroponic fluro light that the plants were previously thriving under.

Here are my fishtanks, two 220Litre containers home to 4 very large marron. homemade biofilter on the left(homemade biofilter version 1 pictured, version 2 will be much larger). Each tank has a 300watt stainless steel water heater.

And here are the plants.

Still have a long way to go!

Hay Kriskos,
In the future if you size your pictures to be 800 x 600, then we can all see and read your posts easier. Really tough to read the posts when ya gotta scroll sideways to read each line.

LOL, three systems already up when you first started posting, addictive isn't it?
Anyway good start. I have a feeling that over time you might decide that those plant trays are a bit shallow for AP though.

Hi Krisko. Good start! One quick note. Those black mortar tubs you're using eventually tend to crack easily. Especially if exposed to the sun.

Maccourt makes on the same volume and is much more durable. It flexes more and may bow out with weight but it lasts long. The one you have lasted me less than a year, the maccourt one is 3 years and going strong. I don't know if they supply maccourt in australia.

Going off what hawaiinewbie said, you could duct tape them up now around the outside to strengthen them for a long time.

thanks for the heads up on the tubs. I wasn't sure about them. A friend uses similar ones and has for a few years. These tubs get only filtered light. The way I am going I will have upgraded past these anyways :)

So, I have changed some things around a bit. One of my 200L tubs contains 40 barra fngerlings while the other has 10 juvenile marron. Will post some pics later! (smaller ones)
