You wouldnt need fisheries approval for Black bream or Barra as they are native to WA. Fisheries is only worried about the non natives getting out into the natural waterways. As for your Pygmy Perch and Western Minnows, why buy them when your nearest creek is full of them. You can get those minnow traps at your fishing store for under $10 and then its just a simple matter of putting in a few worms and throwing it in a creek. You can get all sorts of goodies like Nightfish (a relative to the Murray Cod) and catfish too.

You would need a freshwater fishing licence to fish for cobbler with a rod and line. They cost about $20 from the post office. As far as I know there is no rule for licences if you use one of those bait traps to get minnows. I know the Murray River near Dwellingup and also the Serpentine have cobbler in them. You pretty much have to fish at night (or leave the trap in over night) to get them as they are not around during the day. Close to Perth you could also have a look at Wungong Brook up from where the SW Hwy crosses it. You may find a few Minnows or Pygmy Perch in there. The Blackwood River also has Cobbler in it but as you will be there during Marron Season make sure you get a licence as thats when the fisheries officers are always about!

hey bio-farmer, if you are fishing for Marron in the blackwood and choose to squat on someone's property and then choose to drink from their rain water tank please don't leave the tap on like people do to our's every year.

it is extremely frustrating.

If you try and stop people then they find another way and you have a damaged tank. We find that not locking the tank and allowing people to be responsible is the best way. Unfortunately you still get the few idiots.

Idiots?...*whistles* Don't look at me.... I did that on a relatives property in Boyanup once. He was pissed off. Having a water tank now, and hating those years in the middle of summer when you are forced back on tap water *yuck*... and you think of every drop you wasted.

I picked up 5 pygmy perch today from Vebas, and they have only been in the tank with the yabbies for about 6 hours and hardly see ANY wrigglers in there at all! They certainly were efficient at their job.

All of their bellies are swollen full of larvae and they are now contentedly swimming around the top of the tank.

I'm not sure I will have time to go fish/trap my own, so BF could you please tell me where you got the Western Minnows from? Cheers.

Once place I used to catch a variety of fish was in the Canning River. One spot in particular was under a bridge very close to Araluen. Not sure what the stream was called. I think from memory it was Bennett's bridge.
