There's explanations of the "flout" and links to the manufacturers website... scattered through the forum Sarah... try using the "search" function...

Stands for floating outlet. Basically a box that can float up on the end of a flexible tube. When it floats up to it's limit, water rushes into the holes in the box and sink the box allowing water to rush out the end of the pipe that is in the box.

I have a flout in one grow bed. Read my system thread and you may find pictures of it (pictures are there but the thread is long.)

Thanks TCLynx, I will have a read through your system. I think someone has commented in the past that newbies need a tutorial in the search function, that must apply to me. I spent quite a lot of time using it to try and find out about flouts, though I found lots of reference to them I couldn't find any expainations. Is there a way to seach the whole forum, not just the subforums?

Yea, the search function is not extra intuitive. One thing that might help with these things people keep referring to but not necessarily explaining would be to do the search and then scroll to the bottom of the page and have it sort the posts by date but in ascending order instead of descending order. This will likely give you the initial mention of the item and hopefully the description in the first few listings.
