Looks like they are fading on the top edge as well, perhaps not UV resistant?

I checked out the 500 litre tanks at Landsdale today mentioned in the previous page of this thread.
They are old "roundup" weed spray containers. (Glysophate.).
Looked ok though. The white tank slotted into the grey bottom piece, the grey bit would have made a good grow bed although the inside was castellated if you know what I mean. The white tank was quite thick, probably about 6mm, the bottom of it was slightly conical with a more conical centre piece which would have been great for collecting solids. The fact that they were ex chemical containers put me off buying any though.
Do you reckon fish or marron put in them would die?

anything that has held roundup would be the last thing i would use for fish, even with a good clean and rinse.

I think they would be fine Stu if cleaned out, they say you can drink it, farmers here spray gallons of the stuff around dams etc and nothing carks it, is easy to wash out

Nope, I wouldn't use them either.... and I'd like to see the Monsanto reps drink a cupful everytime they make the remark that "you can drink it"...

And it's a foliar spray, not effecting plant through the roots, so it is said.

Stay way clear of anything that has held glyphosphate. Just because they reckon it is safe doesn't mean it is and just because farmers spray it everywhere definitely doesn't mean it is safe. Bad, bad shit (IMHO).

On glyphosate. The chemical components that harm all plants and probably humans too (I would not drink it) are broken down very quickly by bacteria in the soil (probably water too) which is why it is considered friendly to aquatic environments. If you filled the containers with water and dirt and put them in the sun the sign of algal growth on the tank wall would indicate they are safe now for plants.
