Nope... just salt to 1ppt... don't feed and wait for the ammonia to drop... the nitrite will follow shortly after...

Patience....

Well salted to at least 1ppt a few days ago. Maybe it is 2ppt or 3ppt in total now. Not sure...

No worries. I will wait. Thanks.

Did a water test today 10am.

I know the Ammonia is definitely going down.

But can someone help me with nitrites and nitrates?

Nitrites looks like a 5 to me. Nitrates somewhere between 10 to 20?

I have salted the tank to at least 2ppt. If nitrite is 5, do I need to do anything?

By the way, I think the water has cleared up. Trouts are racing around like crazy when I opened up the tarp covering the tank.

I have not fed them for 2 days (I think; can't recall the last time I fed them; could be 3 days?)

If the Nitrite and nitrates have come up, which they have...
Then you are still a way to go, but IMHO only the weather is holding you and others back
Are you thinking of Barra for summer?

Only for the fish when you have eaten them
But seriously, they will need to grow out before the weather gets too cold again...heaven forbid winter again
So you will have a window of good growth and then slow growth...
But it comes down to temperature stability.IMHO

Well I was not aware that I shouldn't not be feeding them at this stage until a couple of days ago.
Must have been 3 days ago. Also the quantity I fed them then since I saw the nitrites was like half
a tablespoon.

So since we are on feeding, at which point should I commence feeding again?

Seems like for trout and barramundi, it feels a bit like fighting with nature. Trying to grow them out during the short window.

With trout being more suitable under 20c water, and that is a LOT of the year.
...and Trout growing for 4 months are big enough to eat given the right set of conditions,
it would be more a of practice of considering you local conditions
recording history is a good measure if you have time on your side or is something you do, so that makes
it difficult or though...
...this is not difficult, as the bom.wa (NSW, Qld, SA .Vic as the case maybe) site has a lot of stats to help make up your mind :flower:

Did a water test this morning about 8.30am.

pH - 8
Amm - 0.25 to 0.5 (dropping  )
Nitrite - between 1 and 5 (looks darker than 1, but also close to 5)
Nitrate - 20 (increasing  )

Does someone have a good photo of what Nitrite - 5 looks like for API Freshwater Test Kit??

Yeh that Nitrite one gets me to Ivan, even with glasses on 8) but with Rates that high I would suggest 1, but things are happening, how's the water colour?

:D Well the nitrite is still testing the same colour after a few days. Looks like 5 to me.
Hopefully the salt is doing its job and the fishes don't start crashing again.
Fingers crossed.
