Well we hijacked the funny picture thread with our thoughts, so I thought it would be interesting to see what a wider spread of people think of these sites.
I joined My Space a couple of years ago but haven't been back for ages I actually have banned emails from my space as it was getting a joke, in the first week I had 2 offers of oral sex, 1 offer of wild sex and 2 offers of a wild night on the town  all from San Fransisco :!: (I have saved them in my favorites in case I ever get their  ) I also had at least 10 request to add to friends lists that haven't seen me since school, again most from America (where I have Never Been) and some from UK (where I left 44years ago before I started school) and actually never got contacted by anyone I actually knew.
I remember the late 90's and early naughties using ICQ and actually made a couple of good friends, but that got fully trashed and haven't used it for 7 years or so, we also had a chat room called "The Aussie Beer Tent" was run by me and forum member here mandurahguy (whom I meet through ICQ) it was good fun, was great taking the piss out of the Yanks that tried to tell us Fosters was good beer  but you didn't get porn pushers, hackers, spammers, dickheads (well we did get a few Collingwood Supporters  ) and it was good fun, 10 years down the track you have cyber bullies that are causing school kids to suicide, pedophiles, deviates, drug pushers and the like using these sites.
Twitter is always in the news for causing trouble, I have know idea what twitter is, seems like a chat room where the conversation never deletes, but people are known to twitter across a room instead of just talking, why would you want the world to see your conversation? all seems quite pointless to me, and the trouble they cause they should be canned, In my Opinion
So what do others think

I have a Myspace but rarely use it. A lot of porn solitation. I'm sure hot 19 year olds aren't really interested in overweight, balding 45 year olds so it's easy to toss them. Work computer system blocks these and not much into it when I get home...I have kids, critters, and AP :) I am interested in building a real web page like Nocky's or TCLinx's.
I need to get web page for dummies!

Yep - I'm pretty much with you guys as well - then again maybe we're just turning into Grumpy Old Men - which I'm fine with too !

Twitter - don't get it all - don't care how well I know the person, I simply don't give a damn whether they just had a coffee, took a dump or whatever else.

Facebook I signed up to, originally to promote my site, but as you guys have also noticed, the crap piles up so fast you need wings to stay above it (not my quote - I think it's out of Apocalypse Now).

The one use I have for Facebook is that I made my young teenage daughter make me a friend so that can occasionally check that she's not talking to any meatheads that she shouldn't be, or doing something she shouldn't.

Im one of the few people my age I know who doesnt use ANY of them

theyre all data mining , Im surprised so many people are a) stupid enough to use them , b) really think the whole worl wants to know what "mood" theyre in or whatever and mostly - 3) use facebook as a BUSINESS tool ?!

I'll be glad when all 3 are dead and buried and I dont have to hear the weekly ( admittedly from different people ) "Why havent you joined such and such a social networking site yet" questions

my partner works on a computer all day , then comes home and does guess what ...
sits on facebook playing a friggin pirate game

the whole world is glued to the screen and theyre excuse is that the whole rest of the world is glued to the screen , so they have to be to see what everyone else is doing

man, this would be a perfect time to finally destroy the sun - no-one would notice ( unless I posted it on myfacespace page and tag bump friended everyone or whatever the hell all the other zombies do )

can't fix that KE, maybe a Mod could add option 6 "I Don't have a life because I am always on BYAP"
Yes CD is a worry for younger kids, all sorts of predictors waiting for naive kids, mine were into ICQ when younger but they new the rules and chatted only with people they knew or we knew, and they (kids) could be trusted, they are late teens now and do have my space but only use it to keep up with friends in Perth now and then, and post pics of holidays etc, but they can't be that bothered with it and don't really understand why people bother with twitter either, but they were bought in Morawa (population 250 at the time) and learned real people and social skills, and I think this is the main problem, parents come home from work to do the home duties and let the kids quietly use the computer without understanding what they are using it for, I must admit I did ban MSN from the PC's, main reason was my daughter got involved in a MSN bully thing (she can handle herself, only tiny but stings like a bee) that had her in tears, so read some of the comments are they were vicious and foul, 2nd reason was virus's and malware

somehow I would rather spend an afternoon watching my chooks or fish than twitter/facebook or various derivatives of such.

Off topic but in a similar vain, have you noticed that since mobile phones have taken over our lives people seem to think they can call at any time of day...(one of my biggest erks)..

H.

Ahhh the good old days of ICQ, it was pretty revolutionary in it's day...

I use facebook a bit, only for games though, and the games are starting to annoy me. They are so reliant on getting as many friends signed up as part of your "gang, team, mob, family, etc" that if you don't have 500 "friends" in your team, then you really can't go very far. Now of course to get 500 "friends" you basically have to invite a whole stack of people who aren't your friend, to be your friend. This leads to your facebook page being totally trashed with the thousands of stupid messages you receive on a daily basis, from people you don't even know...

I'm sure anyone who has played some of the facebook games will know exactly what I'm talking about.. Yeah vampire wars, mafia wars, pirates, etc, etc are cool for a few weeks, but they do become very repetitive..

I have enjoyed playing Farmville, you don't need dozens of other people signed up, you can just plant and harvest your crops and fruit trees, and animals.. It's my "claytons" farm till I can have a real one. Though they need some aquaculture ponds that you can set up and harvest, they only have pathetic little ornamental ponds...

And think that everyone within a 100mtr radius really wants to know what they're talking about...

What gets me most with mobiles...

(1) The absolute ignorants that leave their phone on... and take a call... while they're meeting with me ... and/or trying to sell me something...

I turn my phone off when I'm meeting people... especially if it's business...

(2) The morons that take their phones to a pub/club.... hell if you aren't with the people you want to be with... you're probably not going to rush out of the pub/club to suddenly go see them anyway....

And that's if you can actually hear them when they call....

Is that like Buying Playboy Just for the Articles :P
Mobiles are a whole new thread, but I just want my for a phone, it pisses me at the bar people texting each other, complaining that people always ring when they are having a beer, "well hello, leave it in the glovebox or at home" but yes getting more another anti social device

Yeah, my daughter actually called me from her bedroom the other day (I was outside)... to ask if I would drive her down to a friends house... a block away.... because she didn't have enough credit left to keep texting her...

ICQ, now that brings back memories.....long cold lonely nights working in Antarctica. Chatting to a seemingly endless supply of supposedly single Russian girls????.
