You know, they actually have things that join wires together to make them longer nowadays :P

I'm sure you could work out how to mount it at whatever depth you require, extending the wire wouldn't be a problem especially if you're only using low voltage. Hook it up to a 9V battery and then to a loud buzzer. Water goes down, closes the circuit, buzzer starts going...simple and cheap.

c'mon...that's got to be over $100...mine is $1.99 plus $5.99 shipping and it doesn't require a power supply or PC configuration. You must have some very fancy fish in your system to justify that kind of expense. :o

Or just be exceedingly anal and like fancy toys... yes :-) on both counts.

fine, I see your point, they are still relatively cheap, excellent and indestructible

How about the poor man's version then? http://www.parallax.com/Store/Microcontrollers/BASICStampModules/tabid/134/ProductID/92/List/1/Default.aspx?SortField=ISBN,ISBN

I was thinking of buying some of these, but am concerned about condensation, as they're improperly sealed.

No point having a buzzer if you can't hear ir, better off with a float switch that shuts off you're pump

mentioned somewhere above kuda, but it also has max load of 50wts, my pump 175wts, and have no idea WTF this means

because I'm no electrician, but 250vDC  minimum  isn't that like 20 car batteries  makes me wonder about the max voltage then, but no doubt someone will explain

It looks to me to be a reed switch (read magnetically operated switch)
maximum current and switching voltage look ok, minimum DC voltage is crazy, I'm certain there's a typo there.
I think it's maximum AC voltage...

As for it being rated to 50W, you can use this to switch a 200W relay that will operate your pump. If you buy it we can help you get it set up ok ;-)
