Well, we've finally bought a system and set it up in our backyard (see attached pics). We're growing broccoli, white onions, green beans, sugar snap peas, roma tomatoes, pak choi, rocket and lettuce to start with and we pick up 20 x rainbow trout fingerlings on Saturday.

We're very excited. :D

Might want to construct some kind of plastic hood for you tommie, otherwise you probably won't get much fruit from that over winter...

I planted some tommies last year without a cover to see how they would go over winter, plants grew fine, and got a good head start before summer, but didn't fruit until the warmer weather. All depends on how warm our winter is this year though I suppose  .

Well it has been 4.5 weeks since we set up our system and water tests this morning indicated that the system is balanced at last. :)

PH has reduced from 8.0 to 7.6, Ammonia has reduced from high levels a few weeks ago to 1.0 ppm, Nitrites are 1 ppm and Nitrates are above 20 ppm.

The fish are happy and we are also seeing some serious plant growth. See pic from this morning.

All is right with the world.

15 weeks after setting the system up, the fish have doubled in size and the grow bed is starting to contribute to lunch and dinner.

Well it's been 16 weeks since we set up our system and that first grow bed is very productive and we've planted a second. The 20 trout we're growing out are close to pan size.

Well our system has now been running for 5 months and we've expanded it. We now have 2 x 1,000 litre tanks and 3 x Grow Beds. I think this will serve Lynn and I plus the occasional extended family visit.

We have 15 large, pan sized rainbow trout in tank 1 and are about to add 50 Bara to tank 2. We'll start to harvest the trout now - we've already eaten two of them - as the temp is rising.

I've taken a few pics of the system as it is today.
