Bitten the bullet.

The 1000L tank's working real well so I've finally decided to bite the bullet. I have now converted my 40,000L pool to a tank. Currently I have 24 Marron and 20 Silver Perch.

I have a friend owns a steel fabrication business and own me a few favours for setting up his computers so it looks like I'm going to get a nice size stainless steel grow bed for it :P

By the time I get home it's too dark for any good photo's but I'll take some on the weekend.

Here are some I took earlier on.
The Current 1000L tank with the unsuspecting pool in the forground. Plants have grown a lot from this picture which was about 2 months ago.

Why don't you convert your pool to saltwater? You can raise Tilapia in full-strength saltwater and still swim in it with the fishes

JP 24 marron in 1000lt  they certainly won't like that, they don't fight but will try and escape up cords or airlines, eventually they will wear themselves out and................expire, ideal for 1000lt would be 4 - 6 but as they are big maybe 4

If I read it right Nocky, it's a 40,000L tank but the pool picture is old.

Tilapia are not all that easy to get in Australia. Also don't think the vegies will like the salt much.

In many parts of Australia tilapia are banned - if found in your possesion (even dead under current laws in Queensland) you are fined several thousand :(

I look at ourpool here at home and wonder just how upset the landlord would be if I converted our pool to AP... So much water, so many possibilities

Looking forward to thos pics!

Pools actually rather green at the moment. I'm working on killing off the algy without killing the fish. A friend is going to do me a good price on a UV unit which should help.

dont stress too much about green water... as long as the ph is good, and there is enough dissolved air there is no real reason to worry - when you have the growbed fitted and the pool has cycled it will slowly clear of its own accord - most people go through the green water phase :D

Yes, as Aquamad said, my fish tank is going through the green phase at the moment. I can see signs that it is clearing up though. Although your tank (pool) is a lot bigger. And from what most gurus say, the water will become crystal clear once the system is cycled. I believe UV units are expensive and there is also continuous running cost of the lamp.

One thing I was told by a number of people, cover/shade the tank as much as possible. Less light, less algae. Not sure how you do it with a pool though.

a challenge with a pool for sure!... however, many fish would appreciate the darker conditions.. feel more secure and less skittish...
The uv way does kill of the green, but it also kills EYERYTHING in the water... including benificial bacteria :(
