Round up PRO Biactive has no warning on its labels at all... completely harmless, dish washing liquid and dishwasher tablets are more dangerous thank it. During a sprayers and spray conference i went to in the UK we were all invited to try a "taste".

Really...

I wont bother to quote "relevant" bits... because I'd have to quote the whole lot...

Safe... mercury and arsenic are about as "safe"....

Hey Rupe, its different stuff:

Quote:
Roundup Pro Biactive has been specially formulated to offer an enhanced standard of operator safety. It is not a hazardous substance as defined by COSHH, when used in accordance with the label, and it does not carry a hazard symbol.

Mind you coming from Monsanto, thats not really a greatly trustworthy quote :|

Well, yes and no, it's more an arguement about the actual "surfactants" used in various forms ...
Quote:
Now with its new and improved surfactant, you can trust Roundup Biactive to be even tougher on those hard to kill weeds in sensitive environments

Quote:
ROUNDUP BIOACTIVE has been formulated specifically to reduce the toxicity of ... The surfactants in Roundup Biactive are readily biodegradable...

Stemming from the "spin" that most of the toxicity data is due to the toxicity of the surfactant rather than the active ingredient... glyphosate...
Quote:
A recent study, on the other hand, has shown that Roundup formulations and metabolic products cause the death of human embryonic, placental, and umbilical cells in vitro even at low concentrations. The effects are not proportional to Glyphosate concentrations but dependent on the nature of the adjuvants used in the formulation.

Quote:
It also concluded that there were some risks to aquatic organisms exposed to Roundup in shallow water. More recent research suggests glyphosate induces a variety of functional abnormalities in fetuses and pregnant rats.

Also in recent mammalian research, glyphosate has been found to interfere with an enzyme involved testosterone production in mouse cell culture and to interfere with an estrogen biosynthesis enzyme in cultures of Human Placental cells.

Quote:
Certain surfactants used in some glyphosate formulations have higher toxicity to fish and invertebrates resulting in some formulations of glyphosate not being registered for use in aquatic applications.

Monsanto produces glyphosate products with alternative surfactants that are specifically formulated for aquatic use, for example "Biactive" and "AquaMaster".

I still wouldn't drink the stuff....

I wouldn't drink it either, a lot of weeds are now round up resistant in broad acre farming, we got a load of sheep manure from grain feed sheep..........not, yard full of *frack* ing weeds that took 2 sprays to kill, second spray was triple strength, farmers are now using alternatives, the problem also with producing chemical resistant plants is you can't spray them out next season, most farmers crop rotate so you have to spray out what was planted the year before as you always end up with a percentage of self sown crop, agin the chemical companies who generally produce the seed also produce a new chemical that will spray it out, at inflated prices :| bit like letting swine flu escape and clean up on the vaccine

Actually the seeds regulations in WA are not as strict as the some of the sellers seem to make out. There is a list of seeds that are ok to bring in and as long as the person selling the seeds can b bothered to check the list they shouldn't have a problem shipping to WA. Most of the sellers the say they can not send to WA just can't be bothered checking to see what seeds are ok to send through.

I generaly just send the seller a quick question and 9 times out of 10 get an answer like

“Hi,
All the seeds that you ordered are on the permitted species list for WA, so I can ship them.”

are they Atlantic Pumpkins Duff? tried growing them for 5 years, got big vine and flowers even a basketball sized pumpkin but all failed, a tip soak seeds in paper towel for a couple of days before planting, they definitely germinate better

Could be, not sure. Going to give some seedlings away to friends but not tell them what type they are.
Think they have to grow above basket ball size to show if they were pollinated.
Thanks for the tip on soaking.

No worries Duff, they would be Atlantic's as they are Basketball size at pollination, I tried let them go naturally and also pollinating with a brush, but as soon as flower dropped off pumpkin whole vine died, had this problem down here in the South and also 400k's North of Perth, plant them on a huge mound as well and if successful only let 3 pumpkins pollinate reducing to the best one if you want a record, move the pumpkin closer to the mound as it grows, all tips from the Pumpkin Lady who grows them regularly, she has a site http://www.atlanticseeds.com.au/ she has various giant seeds like watermelons and tomato's, I have a giant tomato going in GB, hope it survives the frosts 8)
