miam-miam !

As we say here...
1- I wonder how long a trout can (has to) live before you eat it ?
2- And another question was : The reason why the fish tank needs to not be exposed to the light : To limit the growth of weeds ? The development of dangerous bacterias ? What happens if the fish tank is exposed, then ?

And...
3- The most important : Does this tiny 10 meters long grape sometimes give fruits, or just leaves ?

We LOVE bacteria , it is a very vital part of Aquaponics. But Algae is not a friend, reducing algae is the reason for limiting the light on the fish tanks.
A few messages back , someone mentioned about Chinese restaurants ..... Chinese restaurants are famous for serving Cat as food. Try not to get too big a shock. I don't like cats ,, but I would not eat one either.
The trout fish grows very fast , can eat in about 7 or 8 months.

Ok, Cool, I was not quite sure for the weed...

And as for Chinese restaurants, they never serve you any cat (or dog) in France because they are so heavily controlled, poor them, that even their spring rolls still tremble when the hygene dept leaves the shop.

I am not even sure my Hallal butcher down the street wouldn't pass a cat for a rabbit more easily that a Chinese restaurant !

And sorry, you're wrong : Cats taste very good in fact. I know, because in France when I was a girl, butchers WOULD give you cats for rabbits. T'was not such a big fuss ya know ? Good with olives and tomato sauce. Leaves less of these messy little bones in your plate... And, cheaper, too.
lamb brains, cooked softly in fresh butter is just gorgeous...

You don't get nervous, but the foie gras is also one of our favorites here... Not to mention the delicious BIG Bourgogne snails in garlic and parsley sauce that you sip with delight... And the frog legs with oignons and garlic, that taste like a delicate chicken... Or the rognons au Madère... Or the terrible andouillettes that still smell a bit of the pork's inners, ok, but with french fries and a mustard sauce...

So you don't like cats ? Well, I never talk to people who say such cruel things to me. It is shocking, indeed.
:laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3: :laughing3:

I like all animals. And most human beings, too : After all, they, too, have a soul do they not ?
:flower:
Wonder what the crocodiles feel when they finally bite at you ? Think they find us gusty and tasty ?

Sophie, terribly gourmande, the french and wild way.

Sophie ,, I have travelled extensively throughout SE Asia , eaten snakes , including the blood of Cobra , and animals you would normally only see in a Zoo ..... porcupine etc. My wife is from North East Thailand and insects and insect larvae play a major role in there diets, inclusive of ants/ ant eggs , beetles, silk worm pupae , grass-hoppers etc etc.
I have and can eat all those things , but there is something about a dog or cat that makes me not want to eat them.

Maybe better I say , I don't like the way most cat owners look after their animals.
I find it unreasonable that cat owners allow there pet to go anywhere it wants.

ANyway ,, I don't dislike your cats ,, because they are in France there is no way they can come to my backyard:)

... And that's a true French Swimming Cat, right before bath :
http://www.whatsnewemu.com/images/catHatFrog.jpg

I only let my cats go to INDOOR homes.

Of course, lots of people try to lie to me when they say the cat will NOT be left outside... So I need to educate them a lot, talk laws and risks, give true examples...

But y a know ? People that own a 10 kg cat cannot let it outside for long, especially if its speciality is to hunt and fish : A nice five years old Koy fish in a well kept pound in a well kept garden... is not likely to have a tolerant owner when Mr Cat jumps in the pound, toys the koy to death splashing the garden all around, growling in pleasure all the way, and then brings it back to your home to chew on it...
You want an animal : You PROTECT this animal but also your neighbours, and THEIR animals. Or then, you accept that the Police becomes your everyday destination...
People would keep their dogs, rabbits, snakes, spiders and even their hamsters inside.
:!:
So, just like you, I wonder what let's them believe that a "free" cat is such a cool thing, when all it does is spend its day expanding/protecting its territory at all costs, like all animals do, especially carnivores, when they are living wild ?
:?:
What a strange "favor" to do to an animal, to refuse to protect it from the outside life when you say you "love" it. Especially when you say you "love it like your own child". You don't let your child wander the streets alone, enter other people's houses to pee in their garage (when it is just the garage!), or fight with all the kids around with sharply clawed weapons in each hand, do you ?

if people decided to let their dogs wander the streets and gardens, so as to ensure their "freedom" because it is "natural", in two days their neighbours would get so mad that they'd kill the dogs and/or assign their owners to the trial of the century, depending on their degree of civilization.

So why let a cat become the pest of the surroundings ????
:angryfire: :glasses5:

As I said : We, humans, often suffer from shizophrenia when we come to discuss animal matters. Petting and cuddling and gift-covering Pussycat to the point of disgusting a ten years old pink ribonned little girl on one side... And condemnig it to live as a street freak on the other side.

Now, a question : What is snake tasting like ? I'd say much like chicken and frog, no ?
(not a provocative question, ok ? Just a q u e s t i o n.)

And a thought : I wonder why our civilisations do not eat insects ? It is so easy to find and so good for your health : Excellent source of proteins, no fat, very easy to mix with something else when cooking... Plus, we all love... shrimps.

And what is a shrimp if not an insect from the sea ?

I told ya : Schizophrenic.

Oh.
Ok.
Excuse me.
I will go and read this thread, right away.

I am very sorry BUT I know that Australian people love to prank you as much as the French do... So even if I already saw a few AP realisations that would make our Minister of Agriculture pale as a canddle stick, I still wondered if you were not pulling my leg, see?

... Reading your thread with hubbie. We are still crying over the 60 dead fishes.
:?
What a BAD moment to go through.

We'll be very careful with our fishtanks here, cuz we need to spray the house with Virkon (Dupont lab) every two days, thanks to the cats... Covered tanks and NO spraying on the plants...

Was wondering : In case of flee attack/prevention (my downstairs neighbour has the virgin forest on her balcony and that sends tons of flees to us every summer : Does NEEM OIL (from indian tree, ya know?) sprayed on plants... kill fishes ? We are used to it here, and so are the cats who do not mind. But fishes ?

Anyone cared to test this ? Neem is 100% organic it is pure oil from the neem tree, and cures fungies, viruses and bacterias as well as bugs, etc... It basically makes them fly away too, but if fishes can be in danger from neem... ? Neem oil is easy to use (it melts in water) and gives a sort of "milk" that you spread on plants, but also on... your walls and windows when the neighbours have flees to offer.
:D

Other problem : Will need to try and have some support from the French aquaponics forum (that is pretty dead right now...) because we cannot fathom what DIPEL or thousands of other products are !
Do you have any French speaker here ? A Belgium or Swiss guy or gal maybe ?
