Not directly related to the subject, but have you considered trying to get in touch with Travis Hughley of Faith and Sustainable Technologies? His site is fastonline.org , and if I'm not mistaken he already has a major aquaponics setup in Kenya as a training/demo center that is intended to help outlying areas better support themselves. His website has extensive pictures in the gallery of teaching barrelponics, cistern and concrete tank construction as well as a sizeable greenhouse....

Might give you a few ideas of what is possible as well as a person with 'in country' contacts that may be able to help....

Pete

Thanks for that, countryboy! Really interesting and highly relevant, being in Kenya for a start, and also interesting in that he is trying to make use of relatively low-tech solutions like cisterns etc.

The glasshouse setup with outdoor ponds is amazing. Looks like a really pleasant place to be!

Here is an update from some one else who was testing out the simply put the raft in the fish pond method.

Yep, okay, more evidence to suggest that the all-in-one raft isn't the great idea I'd thought it was. Gains in simplicity seem to be offset by losses in performance.
