Interestings cats, welcome and good luck with AP.

Where are these cats supposed to be indiginous? Or where would you reintroduce them?

You know dogs came from the wild too but i don't hear alot about wanting to reintroduce wild dogs. Maybe you should ask our Aussie friends about them.

You sure you don't have a chinese resteraunt in Paris? Could be totally AP. :D

Hi, Thanks, and if you wanna know about Vans, go to the previous page : I think you and me posted at the same moment in fact.
The Chinese restaurant's question : Is it because of the Asian habbit to feed off the still alive fish ? Or something else ? (sorry, sometimes, the language barrier makes me a bit "thick to jokes" )

I will not give living fishes to the cats. I find that cruel and useless. Fishes too, have the right to live a decent life, no ? When we go fishing, we don't torture the catch, for fun. Well, same for the cats, they will have to wait til Mr Fish is killed.

Now, the Asian people may go on eating living animals... Only I don't understand that they can do that in France, IF they do, which I believe they do not, in the restaurants. It would be forbidden, as France signed the Animal Rights Declaration and took a few measures eversince for animal wellfare. You do not have the right anymore, to put a single fish in a round 5 liters aquarium "because it cannot take a bubble maker and a filter, so it is mistreatment" said a fish seller to me once. Knowing how chicken are bred... ??? We humans, are schizophrenic sometimes.

To be honest, I even wonder if Aquaponics could not be forbidden in France one day, due to the overpopulation of the fish tank. Any problem with that in your respective countries ?

I mean, I do not believe that the fish suffer so much, of course. Only I believe the big firms that produce and sell veggies would be happy if the fashion comes here, to try to forbid us to feed... for free... See what I mean ?

I'd like to see someone argue how a "schooling" fish could possibly be categorised as over-populating a tank...

The constraints to "over-population in a tank... are oxygen and filtration... simple as that...

And if any country was to argue the question of "over-population"... then perhaps they should begin with humans...

Still, thesee last weeks, surfing about aquaponics on the french websites and forums that (hardly) mention it, I saw many a "well intentionned" lady that said to an Aquaponics experiencer to "please please please buy a muuuuuuch larger tank ! A 20 litters aquarium is hardly enough for 2 fishes, so these must be suffering so much!"

The aquaponic experiencer then tries to explain that the filtration system, the organic way all this works, etc... But never is he/she heard, because Mrs Good Feelings said it : "Overpopulation is when there are two many fishes to see in the tank." :|

It even ends up with eople saying they "would try it cuz it looks fun" "but with much less fishes, of course".
 !!!!!!

My country is one where people looooove to judge you. Especially old spinsters, as you may know, do that very well. And THEY (lol) are very concerned with animal wellfare...

Does it happen in your countries, or is France just the only one where people can be so mean and coward ?

Help ! I got neighbours, here, guys !!!!

Do you have any experience with this sort of criticism, and furthermore, do you get problems with the veterinary services sometimes, how can it be handled, etc... ?

Ok, diving in the net pond, then... Back soon... Not sure the oyster will be easy to find twice, especially the one containing such BIG pearl, but worth the try.

I still kinda remember it was an "aquariophiles" forum where I saw the worst. Beautiful aquaponic vases with goldfishes and a plant above, and the "nice" lady commenting around the poor little fishes... etc...

Diving now, back soon.

The only forum about aquaponics in my country... I just subscribed. Moving moment...

Nothing on this one that says nonsense about "the poor little fishes", of course. But you asked, so...

Diving again...

Found one :

"jet: Re: aquaponie Dim 12 Oct - 18:46
Ben21 a écrit:

Wich tranlates :
"I have only one thing to say : poor fishes!

I find this very esthetical and well thought, but the goldfishes need at least 20O litres... That they can be satisfied with a jar is just a false idea... Please think a bit about their comfort... Or then try Guppies 20 litres are enough for 3/4 fishes... on top of it they reproduce easily.... anyway it is very beautiful."

This comes from the forum on this link :

http://aqua56.forums-actifs.net/trucs-et-astuces-f2/realisation-et-construction-potager-vegetal-en-aquaponie-t2838.htm

And you can try this one, in French just as well, where a poor guy that has (oh. The Devil in Person) 35 goldfishes in 120 liters of water, for his magnificent aquaponic garden, a small wall for his veggies. He designed his own website called "Mon potager vertical" , a very, very beautiful work, explained step by step with a slideshow (link here :http://www.monmurvegetal.fr/)

On this forum, people ask him with a shocked tone to turn to a 1000 liters aquarium at least, and tell him that "it is like squeezing 35 people in 1m2 with good air inside" after he explained that the system can only work IF the fishes give enough "pollution" to the water, so that the water can feed the roots of his plants, and then go back to the fishes clean and fresh...

Excuse me, it does make me feel hopeless... I'm not gonna translate it all, but really it is awfull. People can be soooooo mean when they are jealous.

It is like this with our cats here, I get this sxxxxt all the time on dailymotion.com where the videos of our cats are hosted : "You can NOT treat them well in an apartment ! If you touch the babies after they are born, the cat mothers always kill them ! How dare you say you love cats, when you have nine cats ? Cats need to hunt ! They should live outside ! You are no true breeder ! etc....... bla-bla-bla-bla-bla." The very same people that cry over their (last) car-crashed dead cat who was sooooo free outside, eating terrible things when it was fed, sleeping in the rain by -10°C all winter long, nice people that are never neutering their females because it is "fun" when they give birth in the garage in a shoe box... Ya know them, don't you ?

I told you : "Good feelings" people, trying to crush down anything they would never dare to try and build, and that is able to work, without their prejudices's approval.

We get our (big) share of them here in France. Don't you get these "funny" comments on their part ? I am abashed.

Don't tell the Bourguignons : We're going to do it too then !

Thank you.

Sophie

PS: Is the white cubic thing on the left of the picture a fish tank ? Something else ? We are still searching for living fishes here in France, that could be eaten after their stay in our tank(s). I assume you have no other French frogg than us ?

miam-miam !

As we say here...
1- I wonder how long a trout can (has to) live before you eat it ?
2- And another question was : The reason why the fish tank needs to not be exposed to the light : To limit the growth of weeds ? The development of dangerous bacterias ? What happens if the fish tank is exposed, then ?

And...
3- The most important : Does this tiny 10 meters long grape sometimes give fruits, or just leaves ?
