I once got pretty heated over this about 8 years ago with some jerk I worked with. He was fired since, and I learned not to take stupid arguments to heart. But prior to that I had never heard anyone challenge the validity of it. I lived it most of my years growing up and look at it as our nation's single greatest acheivement. I was in first grade in 69/70 when I started school and because of my older siblings everyone knew my dad worked for Nasa (Boeing). In first grade, teachers were asking me questions. Somewhat overwhelming. So what I didn't know on the subject I had to learn just to fend of questions. When the Apollo rockets were phased out and the Space shuttle phased in my dad went to work for Martin Marietta building the external tank. I remember him saying "Same job, Same desk, Same secretary, Less Money!"
While the shuttle missions were cool to be reuseable and routine it just didn't carry the same sense of accomplishment.

My understanding is along with DD's and acording to the history tab the woomera area was built to develop a rocket to counter the V2. But I wouldn't doubt some of American tech came from there as Nazi's were working on an non nuke ICBM called the New Yorker by the closing of the war. They were far ahead at that time. And the nuke program included former Nazi controlled engineers who were brought to America. The spoils of war was technologically good for the US.

That is my understanding as that is where Israel and South Africa jointly/secretly developed and tested their nuke programs.

Aussies where a MILE in front at that stage ,, USA took technology AND our scientists/engineers. Simply put , the USA had the dollar and was willing to spend the dollar to get what they where after.
More recently , take a look at the ram-jet ( spelling?) I believe on a huge budget the Americans couldn't get it to work ,, I also read that Aussies did on just a miniscule budget. BUT that only means more sad news ,, the USA will be willing to pay big dollars to those guys ..... the term is "brain drain" :)

Agree on the brother nation thing, and I believe Austrailia was really strapped on men folk due to the war. My mom just got out of high school during WW2 and was a welding inspector building liberty ships. She said 70% of the workers/welders were women. I don't doubt the original origins of rockets, I'm just unfamiliar. Was just going back to the WW2 time frame as I know it. I believe the chinese were using rockets hundreds of years prior including a wicked multi arrow bamboo bottle rocket looking thing looked much like the multi rocket launcher of present day. And they would fire these things at approaching armies.

Mate ,, believe me ,, you DON'T want to meet most Aussie women ,,
We have this HUGE gap ..... 10% of Aussie Gals are absolutely FANTASTIC,,,but they are nearly all married.
The other 90% ,, well best I keep my mouth shut .

Watch the agro come my way ,, it will give you some idea what I am talking about.

By the way 90% of Aussie male I would NEVER recommend to foreign woman.

40 years and they only let people see a low res copy of what is one of the greatest achievements by man. Its at least grossly mismanaged. I think it was also at a time that they needed a win and achieving 95% was not enough. 100% or bust.
