Totally off topic - but does anybody own their own oxy & acet bottles, or does everybody hire them. Am trying to get an idea of costs as I have been looking at the possibility of getting a DHC 2000 (Henrob) welder/cutter and want to know how much it would cost to buy some bottles second hand or to hire.

VB, my understanding is that the bottles can not be purchased, they must be rented.

BUT there is a shifty you can do. Bottles are available, either from the tip or people have them lying around some how.

If you have a mate that rents an oxy bottle for example, just get the same size bottle and ask him if you can go swap it on his account.

As far as BOC is concerned you have returned the bottle you were renting and they have swapped you with another one. Then when your mate brings his back, they swap it again. see?

Catch is he has to already have a bottle out of the same size and type.

;)

Yes, I have oxy/acet but the oxy is empty at the moment, I suppose I should fill it in readyness fro the Murray Cod share-out that is coming up.

I am happy to share out Silvers at cost if any other Brissie guys are interested, I am getting the Silvers next Friday and I can increase the order if anyone wants some. Andy W has said he would like 30, and others ???? These Silvers are the first of the new season fingerlings, so if you want an early start !!!!

just a note about bags filled with O2, probably not a concern for short trips, but more for the longer hauls you can do 10+ hours. Its got something to do with letting the normal air and water in in steps. I know there is a proceedure on the ausyfish website, i'll try and link to it.

From the ausyfish website:

Quote:
If the day you intend to release your fingerlings is overcast and not too hot, you may find the above process will not be required. Temperature is the main reason for slowly mixing water. If you feel the temperature on the surface of your dam is the same or very close to the temperature of the water the fingerlings are packed in, then you may simply release the fingerlings directly from their bag into your dam. Another reason for the above mixing process is, when the fingerlings have been held in their bag for an extended length of time. This causes the level of carbon dioxide to build up in the packing water. In the presence of high oxygen the fingerlings can survive the high concentration of carbon dioxide, but they may go into shock if they are added too quickly to water that has normal levels of oxygen. Therefore the mixing process should be followed whenever fish have been held in bags more than 6 hours.

Hi Murray, thanks for the offer, I was about to say unfortunately too soon for me but let's have some panic here - might get me to shift my backside.

Put me down for 20 SP and you better give me that address for the Ridley's pellets supplier over your way

yep. I bought the 4mm stuff. I'll warn you though, going to take a while to get through 25kg if you don't have many fish.

Since you are going to be out his way to pick up the fish - a good idea. If that doesn't work out let me know and I can pro-rata you 10kg or less if you want.
