Steve, I am going to use the totes like you have used for my fish tank. What is the maximum amount of fish and grow bed area that one could use with these tanks?

Mike 60kg fish max per 1000 lt has been a popular figure, and is what EB advises, with a 2:1 grow bed volume. ie 2000lt of grow bed.

so if you got 60 fish and let them grow to 1 kg each that would be your 60kgs

yeah, that is why I asked, but that sounds like what I was thinking -
so at 60kg max for 1000L, I have a breathing room of 48kg's - that is okay for now I guess, untill I get all my beds up and running!

So, we have 500g or 1/2kg for each dinner-fish. So 60kg in 1000L is 120 fish.

Ok, so after a few days off, a phone call from les and some motivation i have converted my system to flood and drain.

Dark green water is looking more light green, and i bit the bullet and did a water test, cringingly.

PH was first...........8.0 now that got me interested.

ammonia- 0 this is a good sign

nitrite - 0 even better

Now for the nitrate, it had been sitting VERY high in the hundreds due to my bed not being planted out fully or getting good water coverage, even with minimal feeding.................

Now my bed has 3 radishes, 5 tomato seedlings, a hand full of rooted tamarillo cuttings, one bok choi gone to seed, three strawberries going to flower and some baby fruit, a chillit plant thats flowering and some rosemary............nitrates.......ZERO!

WTF  water temps at about 21 so time to start feeding heavily again. :) Oh, and i'm abut to set up a 65mm nft Pipe too :) Might put some lettuce in there

I am amazed at how much the goldies eat...
...I put some in and it started to grow ..until the goldies worked it out and now it is gone (refering to the inside aquarium).
So I have some extra food if anyone wants!
