gee, it's been a while between posts on here  must be time for an update

The fish are doing fine. The water is bright green  but the fish are hungry and the plants are booming. Most likely just under 400 fish of varying sizes in the tank. Still taste delicious :eat: as do the assorted vegies :harvest:

since I put the basket in the water clarity seems to be improving

Hi Jaymie, the vine in the sixth picture on the lower right. I recently put some in my system. When I bought it there were warnings that it would take over the property. I was just wondering if it has ever come close to getting out of control in your system.
Thanks, Jon

hey Stucco,

that is the green stemmed climbing spinach / Ceylon Spinach (Basella alba) It doesn't seem to be as rampant as the red stemmed one (B. rubra). Back through the thread there should be some pictures of the "curtain" :D

It hasn't taken over the property as such, but it does get trimmed regularly by the kids swinging off it and the ducks picking leaves off it. I also pick from the vines regularly for our meals. It does LURVE aquaponics in a tropical setting

HSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night, the float switch that controls the height of the fishtank blew up. Literally!!!!!
I checked the tank this morning to find about 30cm of water left in the tank and the pump still pumping it out.

I pulled the plug on the pump and had a squiz at the float switch, or what was left of it....................

so the count so far,
15 dead
5 almost dead (floating but with still movement in the fins) put into purge/hospital tank
many more in the big tank looking decidedly quiet.

pics to follow

Dunno,
J went up there yesty and the tank was quite full and the float hadn't kicked on, so she gave it a tap and it started working. Glad it didn't zap her!!!!

This was the 2nd float switch, the other one in the pic was the original one that stopped working some time ago, we just didn't bother climbing up into the roof to detach the wires for it but it isn't connected anywhere.

So Today I get to hunt float switches in Tsv. Oh joy!

Bummer... at least you caught it in time...

You got enough water to re-fill that tank... or is the rest of the town going to be on water restrictions for a month...
