The system starts with a 2000 liter fish tank with 15 kgs. of Tilapia. Water is circulated by 6 two inch airlift tubes to a clarifier, filters, a sump and finally to a 3.5 sq.m. veggie tank.

I really like the cement tanks, how old is this system?, it definitely looks well established. And have you thought about flood and drain gravel beds?

Okay Rupert. Here are the close up pics of the airlift. The tubes are 2" pvc and the air hose is 1/4 " . The set up raises the water level from the fish tank 2"-3" higher into the clarifier. Discharge volume is dependent on the size and length of the down tube and the amount of air supply. I get my air supply from the vortex blowers that run my tilapia hatchery. Oh yes, Bill, definitely. I am starting to build a 6 sq.m. flood and drain gravel bed adjunct to the present system. I think that I just have too much fish for the present 3.5 sq.m. Thanks for the encouragement. Now, the pics.

Sorry Bill. You had another question. Yes, the system is about a year old. I just had to clean it out a couple of months ago because I had a problem with water snails eating up the roots of my plants. So, I restarted it with a few convict cichlids in the tank to eat the the baby snails and break the life cycle of the pest. Seems to work so far. The flood and drain bed is going up next week but I have not decided yet on a flow thru, bell siphon or reverse flow via the power head pump. What do you fellas think?

Any updates Cris? I was thinking of a system very much like yours. How did you build it? Concrete forms or block. How did you seal it etc... More pictures please!!!
