AM, you sound like an improvisy sort of guy :)

You can buy complete light assemblies from the aquarium that have 2 150W metal halides and 2x 4 foot FLtubes at 600+ dollars!

I'd pick one up second hand some where and retro the hood. I can post a picture of the light i have,. They were designed for shops and showrooms so have springloaded clips on their assembly much like the downlight holders for domestic lighting. You could cut a hole in the center of your hood and mount it though that, then box around it with some air holes for circulation.

The one below had had the clips taken out

If you're looking for secondhand hydroponic equipment (including lights), you might want to keep an eye on your local police auctions. They collect them from punters who are caught growing illegal crops. Mind you, I would buy them from someone else if you don't want to risk the possibility of the drug squad dropping in to see what you've done with your recently acquired equipment.

I have not seen any notices for police auctions here for that kind of thing - only for motor cars... will ask our 'adopt-a-cop at school, he should know...

I'm not sure the cops would want to recycle the hydro gear. Would nearly be like selling the seized drugs. Mind u, if they did sell this stuff it may go for a good price - cause the dope growers would be steering clear of those auctions (but I guess the hydro dealers would show up).

AHHH, now to go to the boss (the wife) with my cap in my hand and beg for money... which is tricky as we are expecting a baby any day/hour/minute/second...
the emotions/moods are a bit all over the place...
Keep that thought warm, will talk to the boss (but not during birthing pains, they get nasty then! :)

Our school farm got an amazing amount of confiscated lighting equipment from the WA police about three or so years back. One of our sheds soon began to look like a hydroponic tomato jungle!

Its a bit funny how the confiscate thing like that and then sell them back to the public. Seriously, how many joe citizens are going to run multiple 1 kilowatt HID lights for their hydro garden??? LOL, i wonder if they take names and addresses from the buyers, it would make theri work easier :)

lmao
