hi there
i'm totally new at aquaponics
im trying to set up a pond with some reeds and a waterfall i want to have gold fish in the pond as well
i have been looking for some pumps and i found these in a aquaholics store on ebay
http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/aquaholicsonline__W0QQ_armrsZ1
they are unistar pond pumps they look to be the same as Resun King 6F Fountain and Waterfall Pump
my pond will be around the 2000 liter size which size pump would be the best for me i want to run it over a waterfall about 1 meter high
are these unistar pumps any good they seem really cheap and have 2 years warranty and i have seen the same ones but resun in the shops for more than twice the price these guys sell them for
anyway here is a link to the ebay store any help would be apprectiated

Probably a 4 - 6000 litre one. They are as good as any for cheapies, however they are not cheap to run, and wont last more than a year or two.

if you are anywhere near maroochydore where these guys are, you can pick up the pump from them.... and they will show you their setup. they are a homebased suppliers of tropical fish. they have thousands of dollars of fish all in ibc's all using 1 X 8500 pump. the pumps are cheaper as they dont do the usual markup of price to cover the shop running costs..

i have bought pump and air pump from them. i will be calling them whenever i need anything more in ther future..

good luck with your setup!!

I'm with OBO go over double, I suffered from a 2 small of a pump early in the piece, they are not cheap for those pumps you can get cheaper, remember that once into ap you will probably expand so go as big as the budget allows, you should turn water in tank over about once an hour so 2000lt on a 30 min cycle you would need a 4000lt pump, also remember the higher the head the less LPH you pump, at a metre head with a 4000lt pump you would get less than 3000lph
visit http://www.rockaroundtheblock.com.au/ca ... asp?cID=63 and look at the tornado pumps they are excellent, low wattage pumps (can't believe OBO didn't say that) click on the more info link associated with pump and see the actual LPH pumped at a certain head, a 6000lph tornado pump uses 65wt of power, so less than a light globe to run, but they are a tad up in price but again you get what you pay for, they have other pumps as well similar to those you are looking at, but cheaper, and only $10 postage

hi again thanks for the input i have been looking at getting the 4800lph pump on ebay aquaholics they have them for $79.90 http://cgi.ebay.com.au/4800-lph-Submersible-Pond-Water-Feature-Fountain-Pump_W0QQitemZ200348855107QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Decor_Furnishing?hash=item2ea5b8eb43&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A30 with a gift?? not sure what that is but.
i checked out that other site but i cant seem to find one cheaper that does the same and has 2 years warranty i found this one http://www.rockaroundtheblock.com.au/pr ... D=29&cID=7
but again i think it is the same pump but relabeled and its twice the price i guess i might just go ahead with the ones on ebay.
thanks again

STF here is a resun 6000lt about same price as yours with postage http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Resun-Fountain-P ... 1|294%3A50 he also has a 4800lt resun cheaper than yours, my 4800lt resun went 24/7 for a year no problems, now have bigger system and pump, my resun is still working but in retirement for now, 2 year warranty is generally not a worry as they keep going, I have a 1200lph resun that pumps my little goldfish system and also has been going around 15 months without missing a beat, the free gift with yours appears to be other attachments that you will never use, the resun includes them anyhow, resun also are branded Aquapro, Jebao and another, but all are well known reliable brands, this also has a 2 year warranty, I have never seen the brand you have shown here, the 6000lt is about $4.00 dearer than yours but $1 cheaper in postage so for an extra 3 bucks worth it, the resun 4800lt in same store is about $5 cheaper

Yeah, either of those pumps is ok, a bit expensive on power though, and they wont exactly be quiet either.

I definately prefer the better more expensive pumps for a AP system...the consequences of premature pump failure is usally pretty catastrophic.

Rock around the Block, Tornado Jebao = Goodness :)

I disagree OBO in running costs, the 4800lt resun is around 95 - 100watts, my 12,000lt tornado about 175 watts and they are made by the same company, the resun was a bit noisy but far enough away to not bother me, I would suggest if you have some of big kev's dollars left go for the Tornado though (OBO converted me) definitely quiet and energy efficient.
A couple of guys here have resuns and never had a failure yet

ok guys just a quick update

i ended up buying one of these of aquaholics

http://stores.shop.ebay.com.au/aquaholicsonline_pumps_W0QQ_fsubZ952081014QQ_sidZ295222554QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322

form this guy because of his feedback and he's local. I Must say i can't recommend these guys enough i purchased the 8500 liters per hour pump as i thought the bigger the better and the next thing i know that same day it arrived "unbelievable" talk about service. Not only that the free gift turned out to be a good pair of gardening secateurs and it also came with the full accessories kit i mention i was new to this stuff and they also included some information pages on how i should go about setting up my pond.
Any way i just thought the were worth mentioning as good service is hard to come by now

Nice Price STF and they are reliable pumps all are basically the same pump and a different box, take out the foam filter and put the plastic cover back on, you will find the foam filter useless in ap
